personally,I think they should offer it to Aiden first and foremost, he knows the responsibility, if not then it has to be a player worthy of wearing it, McDonald although a cracking player, i felt wasnt worthy of that jumper,so the board and Peter Lawwell whom I do have enormous respect for should just go without it being used if we cannae get the right quality to fill it...
Just putting it out there, perhaps too sentimental with Jinky and Henrik, but there is something about that number and Celtic FC..put it this way, it shouldnt be undersold

aiden doesn't deserve a replica shirt most of the time certainly not the #7 jersey.

I don't think anyone should get it this year. No one's performance last year (bar Keane) was deserving of the number. We shouldn't just give it out to give it out - it must be earned.

too right it shud b retired til we sign a player that is worthy of it and is willing to stay at celtic long enough to bag a 100+ goals. Should also be kept away from has-beens (who were once great players) coming up north to play half a season - to 1 full season with celtic. to many didies in the world can say they have wore our clubs greatest jersey when in Celtics 122 yr history only a handful of players have done it justice.

I think the number 7 jersey should be retired until or more likely IF we ever find another talent in the Jinky or Henrik mould....If we find such a guy and he turns it on for us for two seasons then he should have the privilage of wearing it....The Celtic number 7 is special it shouldn't be devalued by handing it out to ordinary players in my opinion.

Id be happy to give it too bellamy or keane tbh. It would suit them better than it did on skippy or magic

Think Aiden is a fan of the number 10, when he signed his last contract he could have asked along with Skip for the number 7 and would have probb got it over him, but opted to keep 46 (4+6=10) as 10 was already taken.

Personally this season I dont care who gets what in terms of numbers, I'm sure we all have more worries about the squad. if we get someone of sheer quality give him 7 or 69, * it, just get the quality!

The number 7 Celtic jersey does have a special place in my heart because of those who have worn it before. I would prefer it was kept and only worn when we have signed a truly world class attacking player.

with any luck McGeady won't be a Celtic player to even be considered to wear the No.7 jersey. Plus the fact that he is overrated and miles below the standard expected of someone to wear that shirt. It should be retired until someone else good enough to wear it comes along

i think alot of you's underrate him, he is clearly our best player by quite abit, if we get a few players who will actually play with him then i'm sure he'denjoy it more, and i'd love him to prove all yous critics wrong. Dont see why yous put all the spotlight on him,

It's just a number on a shirt. It's the people wearing the shirt that make it worthwhile, the number has nothing to do with it. If a player it wearing 7 or 97, it makes no difference.

We should have went down the same road as southampton did when they lost their talisman Matt Le Tissier and retired the shirt when Henke left no-one will ever be worthy to wear the hallowed no 7 shirt again so just hang it on the door of CP to remind everyone how important our team really is

Your original post said 'miles below the standard expected of someone to wear that shirt'

Are McDonald, Juninho, Zurawaski of that standard??.....NO!!

Has McGeady earned the right to follow in these guys footsteps....YES

    CASE CLOSED!!!....
