I remember Lenny saying that if he got the job, his first priority would be to sign a big name striker, like Robbie Keane. I'd like to believe he is still keeping his word on this promise, if it's at all possible.

Seems to me that most people just don't think this is going to happen anymore, or am I wrong about that?

What do you think the chances are that we will get a big name striker like Keano or Bellamy (or anyone else) this transfer season? And why? Describe below please, if you care to.

Yeah but will he be a bigger name than Jan Vennegor of Hesselink?

If we were to sign Bellamy or Keane it would be deadline day stuff. If they realise that once again they'll be stuck on the bench for City/Spurs (depending on signings) I'm really hoping that they'd rather a season with us than signing with Sunderland/Wolves/etc

Am not arsed about a big name. Am arsed about big-ability, big influence. I think that someone like Altidore who comes with much less of a rep than Keano or Bellamy could make a better impact in our side. Minus the wages and despair if things don't work out.

Neil Lennon: Celtic need another Robbie Keane - Telegraph

He falls just short of a promise here. I can't find the particular article I am referring to off hand, but I seem to remember him saying specifically that his first priority when he comes to the club is singing "Robbie Keane or someone like Robbie Keane".

Altidore is average. Doesn't score nearly enough goals

Yeah his priority is to get the best he can get. He never did promise a big name striker.

Very much reminds me of Fortune. Good players both of them but if we're signing a new striker he has to have goals in him first and foremost.

He hasn't settled anywhere yet. Hasn't had a run of 10-15 games in his career i don't think. I don't get how you can say that based on this. He's mainly been a sub too- even at Hull because they liked one up front.

He isn't average btw. A big powerful guy with a decent shift on him. Not bad at hold-up too.

Yeh. Someone on par with Keano basically means a rather well known name though!

Maybe he can score goals, maybe he has him in them. Still quite raw imo

Anyway i said someone like Altidore, i think the name is something we cling to. We don't necessarily need a big reputation. Though since we have been promised something, we're all curious.

So on the flip side. After a handful off games you think he's good enough for us. Very few goals. Big boy with good effort but that's it IMO.

I know what ur getting at mate but I think fans hang onto every word and twist them. No promises.

Keep the faith though. In Lenny we trust

Based on how he has ruffled up some established defenders, yes, yes i do.

But like i said, i don't want to focus on him and am not pleading his case to be signed here. I just think that we need ability as a priority rather than name and reputation- though they are linked i suppose.

In answer to the question, No, I don't think we will sign a big name striker.

The bottom line is, if the board's plan included splashing the sort of cash it would take to land Keane etc, then we wouldn't have Lennon as our manager.

Lennon was the low-cost option, so it makes sense to expect a low-cost-option team for the coming season.
