    ALAN THOMPSON was last night on the brink of sealing a sensational return to Celtic.

    The Parkhead club hope to unveil the former Hoops midfielder, 36, as new boss Neil Lennon's No 2 later on today. Thompson quit his reserve team position at Newcastle last week - clearing the way for his Celtic Park return.
    Thommo - who hit 51 goals in 227 appearances for Hoops - enjoyed a trophy-laden Celtic career.
    Signed by Martin O'Neill from Aston Villa for £2.75million, he struck a friendship with Lennon.
    The new Hoops boss has wasted no time in appointing Thommo as his right-hand man.
    Thompson was locked in talks with club officials last night following his return from a family holiday in Dubai.
    He's expected to put pen to paper on a contract later today.
    Thompson's appointment as assistant boss will see Johan Mjallby step aside and become first team coach.
    Lennon's old Leicester City team-mate Garry Parker is also expected to join the new-look Celtic backroom staff.

    Says on Celtic website he is first-team coach, so that must suggest Mjallby is assistant coach:50:

    Alan Thompson officailly appointed as coach

    Alan Thompson has joined Neil Lennon's backroom staff at Celtic as their new first-team coach.
    Lennon[​IMG] was announced as the Glasgow giants' permanent manager last week and the 36-year-old will link up with his former team-mate to take up the post.
    Thompson[​IMG] spent seven years as a player at Parkhead between 2000 and 2007 before departing for Leeds while they were in League One.
    The former England international made his first foray into coaching as head of Newcastle United's[​IMG] academy operation before leaving to return north of the border.
    Thompson will be unveiled at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.

    get a coach in who has reasonable experience in developing and cojoling players to become better footballers !!!!!!!!!!!NOT NEIL'S MATE who when things went against him as a player spat the dummy and behaved like a spoilt brat :38::38:

    lennon has not EVER worked with thompson on a coaching level what so ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    so how can he trust him ??? If he trusted him that much then big johan would not be his number 2 :97:
    as for you waiting i will give you sven goran eriksonn who took over the ivory coast and has surrounded himself with guys he had never ever met let alone trust :86::86:
