This subject has come up a few times in different threads. Some people are very anti pope and have not given a reason so I'd like to see why they dislike him. What has he done wrong? He is an important person to millions of people around the world and to me at least, is a good man (I'm not really a Christian, or at least I haven't 'explored' it enough)

Please don't turn this into a trolling match, mature arguments only.

dislike the catholic church and its constant refusal to modernize. particularly with regard to contraceptives and abortion, stem cell research etc hate the whole got bless the pope * at celtic park. most of the morons that sing it have probably never set foot inside a church in their lives.

I partly agree with you, the catholic church needs to update some of it's policies regarding abortion etc.

Regarding the GBTP stuff at CP it's ok as long as they mean it. If it's just to * of the Huns or to fit in then it's wrong.

i don't understand why many people are so anti-pope. He's a good, honourable man. I don't believe in any religion but i don't get why people dislike him

Personally I think the Catholic Church's refusal to modernise is it's strength. The Church teaches in ideals and I don't see what's wrong with that, if more people lived by the moral code that the church teaches I think the world would be a better and safer place. Just because society has become more liberal and secular doesn't mean the Church should automatically follow suit.

As for the Pope himself I have no problem with the man. I preferred JPII though for some reason.

agree totally, plus the fact the catholic church try to brush peado scandals under the carpet instead of punishing the persons involved and getting help for the children.

I think its cos JPII seemed to be closer to the regular everyday catholic then Pope Benedict. Maybe its cos he did more media sorts of things in the public eye.
It doesnt help that Pope Benedict is in at this time when the church is under more scrutiny than ever.
As a devout Catholic it genuinely hurts me the way a couple of people act on this board

JPII was a progressive, that's why he was more accepted and respected among other faiths. He believed in evolution and talked about the necessity of stem cell research while warning against consequences if it went too far.

I am also a devout catholic and try live my life as my religion directs the best i can. JP 2 was the modern pope people were after which made him quite popular and i really liked him he even prayed in a mosque. Benedict is the more average no nonsense pope which isnt a bad thing because he hammers home the point of being a good catholic. I never understood the pope is an antichrist chat that really is some belief eh?

The Question is "Why do you dislike the Pope" not your general views on religion, keep on topic.

Why don't you like "the pope" can you elaborate ?

I don't like the Pope because of the lies and refusal to punish priests for crimes. I also don't like him because he lives in a backwards world. Same goes for most of the church and most religions in the world.
