nope! the cl is farce.the name is a farce! should just name it the european cup again, too many none champions are in it now while the real champions from other countries have to go through bullshit qualifying just to keep the bigger countries happy! its all down to greed now and this is killing the game! but what will uefa do? hee haw . football is a world wide sport and its not about germany, england, spain, france is it. sick of it now and tbh i think the cl this season has been pure pish imo.

    Too. *. Right.

If other countries can chuck 3 or 4 teams in the one tournament, then your * right we do.

Traditionalists will argue that it should only be champions in the tournament, but then traditionalists argue all games should be 3pm on a Saturday.

    Money talks.

AlsyBhoy, I understand what you're saying but do you not accept that what people want to see is a competition with the European elite? I accept the criticism of the name but it seems strange that a problem with the name would provoke such venom. The structure of the tournament seems to be what is eating at you. But surely you would agree, as a football and not as a Celtic fan, you would rather watch Roma versus Real or AC Milan v Man U (none of whom are Champions this year), than the Lithuanian Champions against the Belgian Champions. Football may be a world-wide sport, but the quality is focussed in certain countries. To get that qualoty competing and playing against each other, which is what we all want, the best v the best, the current format is necessary, no? Just interested to hear opinions on the matter! :50:!

Also, I've enjoyed the CL this season. Arsenal Barca, Man U bayern, Inter Barca, Bayern Fiorentina (and of course the Huns getting ridden in front of an international audience) have all been highlights.

of course i would! but at the same time other teams in europe who go through the same lengh of time in their league and win it deserve to be there too! whats wrong with seeing a team from lithuania playing against real an underdog versus a top dog? after all a top dog in this years cl(barca) lost to an unknown romanian team! that was great too see. this needs to be adressed cos im pissd of seeing the same rich as * teams in it all the time. its not all about them.

Its called the champions league for a reason and we are not champions of our league, its a farce really and shouldnt be called the "champions league" the simple fact of the matter is were not good enough anyway, even teams like rubin kazan, kiev and standard liege are miles in front of us these days in terms of calibre of player and quality, celtic have went backwards when we should have been building from strengh to strengh. We simply have been going out since the oneil days and have been shopping in pondstretchers instead of harrods!!!

Bargain basement bit squad players and no real quality coming through the doors, the epl has played there part in the disater we find our selves in, there paying the big wages and are attracting the big players, what big players has scotland got???? who would want to come to scotland when hull and wigan are paying est of £60 grand a week???

If i grew up and was an amazing footballer my heart would always be with celtic and i would stay there my whole carear regardless of what any club in the world were willing to pay, were is all the tallent in scotland????? most of the talented footballers in scotland turn in to junkies, alchy,s or dope heads!!! and our goverment are doing next to * all to eradicate this matter, a mean there used to be a lot of football parks in my area but nowadays there all gone and thev built houses or buissnesses, etc over the top of them!!!!

We will never be able to compete unless there is big changes in all aspects i feel we will be competing in the europa league for the next few year unless something drastic is going to happen, do i think it will ???? yes but we need our majority shareholder to get his pen out and start spending some of that wealth!!! if he was a real supporter like half of us on here some of that billion he,s worth would already be getting pumped in to us!!!

We deserve it more than the teams who finish 3rd and 4th in the EPL, put it that way.

We finished second in our league. That automatically gives us more right to be in the Champions League than the teams who finish 3rd and 4th in the EPL imo.

it should be renamed the zenith of capitalism trophy. and yes if the fourth spot team in the epl is entitled to a place then so are we.

other than the money I think we are in danger of embarrising ourselves such is the degree we have sunk. We are more Europa level on a good day. I think the aim next year is get back to a team that is well on top in the SPL like we had in both MON and WGS's first 2 seasons. In those 4 years we blew the opposition away and I think we need to get back to that before we start thinking about the CL.

If in season 2011-12 we are dominant in the SPL and going into the CL we make sure the manager has WGS's gift for success. Those last 16s were IMO nothing to do with player standard and almost entirely down to clever tactics.

But compare standard of SPL and EPL. The gap is massive.

If there are to be non-champions included, it could at least include more quality sides.

    * sake, Gordon is that you?:56:

If we're going to go down that road then let's just put the top 10 teams from the EPL and La Liga all into the Champions League. The competition will then be a farce(if it isn't already). Champions League? My *.

I'm * sick of UEFA now, just the same way I'm sick of the EPL. Every * year we've been in that Champions League Group Stage we've been * over by referees at some stage when we've come up against the big clubs. It's pretty obvious we're not wanted at the top table in Europe. UEFA just want it to be Barca, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus, Bayern, Man Utd etc etc every * year. It's a snore fest. * the lot of them. :38:

First paragraph makes sense. However, I must disagree. I think 3 teams directly in group stage + 1 in qualifiers is realistic and it should be that way if this pattern of Champs league continues. And it will, we all know le frog Platini will do anything to keep it that way.

Quality of CL would drop if we are to include less teams from top leagues and give chance to weaker teams. It would be even worse, Barca, Real, Milan, United etc. would have clear road to quarters and semis. Sad, but true.

As for bolded bits, I * agree!

Yes we deserve to be involved in the Champions League next season. We all know all to well what a disaster Mowbray was and what a mess he made of the team. But we did finish second and that was enough to qualify and everybody knew that at the begining of the season. So we got what we deserved from that stand point.

:56: Sorry man. I'm harbouring a bit more pent up anger towards UEFA and the EPL than I realised. :52:

Bottom line for me is this.......

Because of the way UEFA are rigging the Champions League to get the same pool of clubs into the last 8 every year, big clubs like Ajax, Celtic, Rangers, Benfica etc are just being left for dead now. If Villareal(a * nothing of a club) drew Ajax or Celtic in Europe now you'd be shocked if Villareal got put out. Money has done that. The way things are going it's just the rich getting richer and the rest getting shat on. It's like living under a Tory government :31:

If the Champions League was reformed to be for actual Champions again(and maybe you could extend it to 2nd placed teams if you really HAD to) then yes for the first few years the likes of Barca, Man Utd would have an easier time of it. But clubs like ourselves, Ajax, Benfica etc would get access to more money through the Champions League and after a while would compete better. It would also raise the standard of football in the countries of these clubs. Imagine what getting into the group stages does for clubs like Steaua Bucharest for example? It's only fair that these clubs get a fair crack of the whip and a share of the UEFA cash cow. Clubs like Barca, Man Utd, Real Madrid etc will ALWAYS be rich and find money from somewhere. By setting the Champions League up so these * can't fail only gives them more and more and starves once large, proud and famous clubs like ourselves. It * me off to the nth degree in all honesty.
