This * about his fitness needs to stop. He's been fit most of the season and has himself said that he's been available for selection most of the season. I'm sick and tired of people saying he cant last a whole game because the truth is he can and that his fitness issues are in relation to his previous injuries NOT his physical capacities!

Agree, a bit like if McGeady had a final ball and half a brain he would be at a bigger club!

Cant pass (or wont pass) has no desire to track back, the mazey runs he has gone on have been good although opposition managers would be fuming at the defending i.e. the St. Mirren goal, they basically let him walk through.

He has some skill but that just ain't enough in this day and age, he needs to get working hard on his fitness if he is to get near the pitch week in week out.

he started off quite greedy (and he had a right too) he shown in the st johnston game that he is a team player, and when u r only getting about 5 games a season u myt as well show what you can do

he has come out and said, he has had a few injurys but this fitness thing isnt right, that hes been fit most of the season and just overlooked

i see what u mean about george best there similar types of players but obviously not the similar ability (yet :icon_mrgreen:)

Neil Lennon is a huge admirer of Paddy so hopefully we'll see more of him next season.

Probably my favourite Celtic player at the moment.

He might have the talent, but imo shows no desire to improve his standard of fitness or himself. I don't understand the thought of how he should be starting. He has done his great runs and goals against below average teams and if I remeber correctly came on against rangers and was not to be seen after he got found out.

    Impact sub at most

He's average at best. He has had 2 good games for Celtic and any other time he has been very poor e.g 3-3 falkirk game. He has skill, that is of no doubt, but it means nothing if he is unfit all the time, or injured. He is inconsistent whenever he does play and often finds himself as a passenger in games. To mention McCourt in the same breath as Best is, frankly, laughable. Maybe i'm wrong but if he was from Glasgow and called John Smith then would he be as good a player as many fans make out. The fact he is Irish and 'looks like one the 10 brave men' helps McCourt's status with the fans.

to those who have said he doesn't have fitness problems - yes he clearly does. He came out recently and said he had no injuries this season, but never mentioned wether he was fit enough to last 90 mins each week. How can you say in the same post that he is an excellent footballer and claim he has been fit. He isn't playing for one of 2 reasons. Either because he isn't fit enough to last 90 mins week in week out or because he isn't good enough. If he had no fitness problems and was excellent why has he rarely got a game under 3 different managers? (Lennon, Mowbray and Strachan)

The fact that some people think Pat McCourt can't get a regular game because he doesn't track back and contribute defensively is a sad indictment of what football has become in the last 20 years.

Surely there should still be room in the beautiful game for people who can do the mercurial kind of things and score the spectacular type of goals that Pat McCourt can?

Back as recently as the 80's teams could still get away with carrying one or two luxury or flair players. These guys were the entertainers that we paid our money to go and see. Nowadays we expect our wingers and our strikers to run themselves into the ground and be back in their own half tackling people, it's quite a negative development in the game of football imo. I would much rather see us go back to the days when the wingers main focus was skinning full-backs and showing a bit of trickery to get the fans out of their seats instead of chasing an overlapping full-back and trying to tackle him.

Scottish Football is so devoid of players who can produce a bit of magic that I think it's a real shame that when we have a player with the flair McCourt has he is left sitting in the stand just because he won't 'track back'. The game of football is all the poorer for people like Pat McCourt being frozen out on the sidelines.

Sorry but Paddy McCourt wouldnt lace Bests boots...

he isnt even a quarter of the player best was... over rated... highly.

If he was so good he would have been lifted by scouts in England a long time ago.

    Seriously get a grip.

    Messi surely ?

Anyway, paddy seems to do well against smaller teams, any time hes came on against rangers hes done nothing at all. He starts a big run then loses the ball. I'd like to see him fully fit and getting a game to see if hes really good or just shows glimpses but i don't know if that will ever happen.

Right I think I need to make it clear what I meant by 'the new George Best' because a few people in here only seem content when ripping apart other people's threads rather than taking part in them or putting forward their own. So, in my 1st post I think I made it abundantly clear that the only ability that was being used for any comparison to the one and only George Best was the ability to dribble with the ball, goal scoring and the ability to read the game like Best did are not my criteria for comparison. I did state that he must be seriously lacking in other departments if he can't make the side. So now that that's cleared up can we please get back to discussing the topic rather than tearing it down?

What a stupid thing to come out with. His haircut and nationality are irrelevant. He is an amazing dribbler and if fit would start everygame
