Keeping Keane Surely we would all be winners

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by celtic 1967, Apr 28, 2010.

he is definately on the downward slope. He is not the player he was. I can see that with my own eyes and I have a Spurs daft mate who swears he is past it. Looks like he is nowhere near as mobile as he was a few years back. At 30, given our limited budget, I would think twice about even shelling out 4 million and 40,000 a game on him never mind twice that.

I cant see Keane having a huge shirt sales effect all over again. You only make that sort of impact once. I do not believe for a minute that 20,000 fans will only get season tickets if Keane signs. These are the sort of fans we can do without.

Not my job to work that out but we should NEVER shop in the EPL IMO. Its a complete rip off.

  1. PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION: what would you rather do spend 8-10mill on keane or 8-10mill on other players much needed like defenders and a bit of experince

if we could get keane for 4mill them i would say bite redknapp's * hand off but for the clubs sake i would rather invest on more players i think that's what u call celtic minded

but dont get me rong i am all for keane to stay

    Keep the faith :shamrock:

  2. It's not your job but you did make the statement about better quality being available for cheaper so I thought you would have had somebody in mind.

  3. I think its a fair assumption to make that there isn't better available in Keane's case for cheaper.

You know what they say - cream rises to the top, and Keane has been EPL material for a decade.

I agree he's on a downward slope, but who isn't past 28 years old? The fact is in the SPL he is far and away better than any other striker, and this is coming from someone who is not his biggest fan.

I'm surprised we got him here in the first place and only poor management ruined this opportunity.

He won't stay as there are bigger challenges elsewhere and he's now ticked the "Celtic" box. Fair play to him. The only exception will be if he goes to a bottom 6 team. I'm sure we can offer a similar financial package only with CL/UEFA Cup incentives.

We won't sign or develop better in the next 5 years. Such a shame this acquisition has been wasted.

  4. it would make sense breaking the bank to get him

say we get 4/5 good years out of him in my opinion thats 4/5 titles in the bag

  5. I think the issue is he is a very good player by SPL standards but TBH he is past his best now in EPL terms, is not the mobile player he once was and he is 30. That all computes to me that the normally quoted fee and wages are both grossly inflated. OK if he was going for 5.5 million and his wages were 40,000 a game I might be tempted to give him a 2 or 3 year contract but he is certainly not worth what is being quoted. Those are crazy EPL prices.

  6. Agree totally with this whole comment ...which is why he is sitting on a bench.
He is good in the SPL but I think so far he has shown why he is playing up here, because he is getting past his sell by date and will only make it now in the SPL and lower premiership teams. His skills are hardly highlighted when playing some of the teams in the SPL, they make him look better.
Although I cant see defeats against the likes of Ross County/St Mirren etc doing his reputation much good.
I think money will talk, he has got his name on the players list for Celtic, and will now return to any club willing to pay vast amounts.

  7. In my opinion Celtic should just completely avoid the English market for finding new signings. It's so overpriced and the players are mainly average. To think Man City once paid 6mil for Samaras. We should look to Eastern Europe in countries like Slovakia were there are a lot of up and coming talent. For me, however, the English league is big no-no in terms of finding a player at a decent price who will improve our team

  8. The problem there is, not every Slovak player is a Lubo. When I say that, I mean someone who can understand what it means to play for our great club and why it is so important to WIN and WIN BIG against the huns, english teams, and europe in general. Premiership and championship players at least know something about the old firm and why we need to win. To me, signing players in eastern europe is almost as big as a gamble as the asian market is.

Keane? He probably doesnt want to stay anyway. The abuse they all took after the ross county result which made me ashamed has probably shown him how some our fans truly are . . . Spoilt little brats who cant take it when we dont win. I can guarantee if he goes to any team in the prem he wont need to put up with that * plus he wont have the pressure on him that he has up here every week.
