why can we not just accept he is the captain and put our support behind
him & the team.As someone pointed out earlier the manager (s) who work with him every day have seen enough to give him the honour.

my own choice for captain would have been Robbie Keane or Andreas Hinkel but as a fan i'll give Broonie my full backing and hope he lifts loads of trophies as captain.

Well considering the armband is usually given to a leader on and off the park and an inspirational figure, it rules almost our first team squad out of the running. With that in mind though it's got to be given to someone and I despite the fact I've figuratively lined every player up in my mind and weighed up who best qualifies for the job, I'd say it can only really come down to Brown, Boruc or Hinkel. I just don't see anyone else remotely suitable for the job.

As for McManus coming back and being handed the armband, well first time round all he done as captain was to perfect the art of clapping his hands as way of rousing the troops. Sorry but the guy is far too nice to be our captain. The job is crying out for a snarling, no bullshit type of player who leads by example and isn't afraid to let others around him know when they're not putting a shift in.

Pity Lennon's not available eh :31:

For me a captain is someone who leads by example, is vocal and one who the players look up to. At the moment i would have Keane as captain, on the other hand you might want someone who will be here next season to be captain, Hinkel could be a good choice, although hes not the most vocal but he could do the job like Jackie did!. Brown and Darren Odea are not captain material imo and Boruc should just concentrate on his own game rather than anything else.

To be fair, he shouldn't be in the team, nevermind captaining the side. Out of current bunch, I guess Boruc is the only one closest to being a leader, but he's actually far from it. Tells something about leadership in our team.

If Robbo was still here, I'd have no hesitations about who should wear the armband. Or Mick when he comes back, but even then I don't think we'll have true leader.

Perhaps Keane until the end of season, although can't see it happening.

another oversight of moggas, not having a leader around, too many young players, running around like headless fecking chickens

i personally take robbo back for twice whatever we were paid...

He has been far too often a liability, when what is needed is reliability. Maybe, under Lenny's stewardship, he can grow into the role. There is a proviso to this however, namely if Lenny remains in the job & if Brown can seize opportunity to prove he deserves to be in the team, let alone captain.

Neither is a mortal lock, both are far from certain.

I think brown is starting to lOOk like the player we thought we were getting. Im starting to think we shouldn't sign N'Guemmo. Would like to see more of Brown and Crosas.

I bet with a decent pre-season he could still do a job.

It's not like he had any pace to lose.

Definitely not, but at the moment it doesn't matter with Lenny snarling and kicking every ball on the touchline.

im not his biggest fan but i think he makes an alright captain and i wouldnt give it to boruc because i believe it has to be a reasonably central figure on the pitch that can shout instructions to strikers and defence which because of boruc's position i dont think he can

I saw him shouting alot yesterday trying to get everyone in position etc. We need to give him a few more games i think, its a big change from being lead to being leader half way through a season where everyone has failed, i think yesterday he realised it was up to him to get the players to up their game.

Well if we're going to include players from teams in other countries, I'll go for Iniesta. :56:
