Neither did I but the fact is Strachan was probably under orders from the board to get Thommo out the team and out the club ASAP so we didn't have to pay his wages any more. :54:

This is the kind of ridiculous view of some Celtic supporters.

He would rather Mcgeady as he has bundles of skill but his final ball is poor, but still ehh..... ???

    *!

Thompson every single day of the week, fought for celtic, scored some great goals in Europe and Old firm games. At least the crowd wasnt split with Thompson, what you see is what you get with the man, great Celtic servant, done more in his few years with Celtic than Mcgeady ever managed.

Amazing some on here think we will get £8-10M for mcgeady, when we most openly admit that a £2M player in Alan thompson was a far better player for the hoops -- Tells its own wee story ehh!!!

Thomson all day everyday! McGeady doesnt have the respect for his team mates and desire Thomson had.. anytime u seen Thommo he was out there workin for everyone tracking back crossing and not to mention some of the goals hes scored that McGeady can only dream of. McGreedy needs to learn to pass and shoot no point running into corners and dancing with the ball if you cant finnish it, Otherwise lets check the olympics in the summer get a few runners and teach them how to kick a ball and dance round it.

Alan Thompson by a mile. He was the designated hun skelper. Fantastic player for Celtic and far more effective than McGeady.

Going by skill it would be Aiden but going on contribution an d goals to the team then i'd chose Thompson everytime

he always had a knack of scoring a crucial goal in big games Barcelona and aginst them to give an example

Aye but that says a whole lot more about Martin O'Neill's shortcomings than it does about Moravcik.

After Larsson, Lubo was the best player in that team.

Yes - the story it tells is that a lot of lovers of football prefer an outstandingly talented but inconsistent player to a solid consistent workhorse.

    No big exclusive there, surely?

I think a far more revealing wee story is indicated by the number who prefer Thommo. The story being that a couple of striking high profile goals against Rangers can totaly transform the reputation of a decent but unspectacular player among Celtic fans.

What I do think it tells is that the Celtic support are now becoming more educated on the over rated player that McGeady is.

No Final Ball, and hasnt improved in 5 years at the club, tells its own story ehh ???

EPL isnt exactly cambering for his signature are they?

I think when we are discussing Aiden McGeady this is one of the key points that needs to be addressed.

I possibly wouldn't go as far as to say 5 years but certainly in the last 2-3 years I have seen NO DEVELOPMENT in Aiden McGeady's game. That is quite unusual for a player at that age and also quite disappointing. At 19-20yo Aiden looked like he could be anything he wanted to be but he seems to have hit some sort of glass ceiling. You would imagine that every day at Lennoxtown he is working on his crossing and his final ball but I see no signs of either of these facets of his game improving.

I think what some people are forgetting is that although Alan and Aiden are different players they play (when attacking, similar) I say that because people are saying that Tommo was immense when it was needed unlike mcgeady, you look at Alan and the big games he was in and more often then not he was the pivotal figure in the team were as if Mcgeady is trying to attack there is no end product.

That is a fair enough argument one of my fave goals by him outside the hun wondergoals was his header against Bayern yes we lost that game but he was great against them.

My choice is simple it has to be Alan all the time and going back to my opening sentence about what people seem to forget, well what I feel some fans who are supporting mcgeady for his skill alone is that Tommo had pretty neat skills that if anything were more pratical and more effective but still his control and touch on ball is what some seem to forget.

    alan thompson.

the main reason for me. thomo gave us so many happy moments and vital goals barcelona, rangers, shakter, liverpool, bayern muncih, stuttgart. Thinking about it now its crazy how good he was for us in big games.

In Strachan's book, he basically states that he thought Thommo was past it.

The goal he scored v Rangers in the 90th minute caused me to lose my voice because I was cheering so much.
