celtic to appeal scott brown red card

    Newsroom Staff
CELTIC will appeal the red card given to Scott Brown during the derby clash with Rangers at Ibrox.

Referee Dougie McDonald sent off the Celtic captain following a tangle with Kyle Lafferty, with the Rangers player unpunished for his part in the incident.

It immediately seemed to be a controversial decision to everyone in the ground, and certainly, any fair-minded person looking at the incident at the time or subsequent TV replays could see it wasn’t a red card.

It was a decision which had a major impact on the game and Celtic will now appeal against the red card, which saw Tony Mowbray’s side down to 10 men for the last half-hour of the game.

Certainly, the Celtic support in the Broomloan Road Stand and beyond were left mystified and angry at yet another refereeing decision in a derby game this season which has gone against the club.

In the first derby match of this season at Ibrox back in October, Celtic were denied a blatant penalty by referee Craig Thomson, who admitted after the game that he had made a mistake.

And in the game against Rangers at Celtic Park, referee Steve Conroy disallowed a Marc-Antoine Fortune goal, though replays showed that there was nothing wrong with the goal.

Now, Dougie McDonald’s decision is added to that list and will be the major talking point from the game.

Wont change the result, simple as ! Should be appealed if nothing but to back up our claims this week but i dont see it going anywhere. It was harsh but i thought Brown lost his head a bit, and i expected better from a celtic captain when a must win game was balanced at 0-0. The ball was gonna go out anyway and it wasnt a goal scoring chance for either player at the time. Brown should have let lafferty push and pull him instead of reacting like he did and accept the foul. The picture on soccer.net wont do Browns appeal too much either

Brown lost his head a bit? In what way did he lose his head?

Lafferty was pushing and pulling at his head, Brown stumbles forward as you would if a skinny ugly * was clinging to your face then pushes him off eventually.

I don't see how he lost his head? what about the wee kick davie Weir took at One of our boys staright after it?

Lafferty should be banned. Charlie Nicholas was right what he said at the end of the game. He certainly isn't in the game for his talent- becuase he has none.

why exactly? everybody watching that saw Lafferty pretty much attack Brown who then tried to get the lanky * off by pushing him then he goes down with the intention of getting brown sent off! ref didnt even see it, he * bottled it though will he admit it?

celtic have every right to complain; yes, the league is more or less over but we should be making a stand and stop accepting such ludicrous decisions

@ P.R.D i agree that seemed a very strongly worded statement; and if the SFA throw out our case then we are left in little doubt to the SFA'a agenda

From a refs point of view he only sees it from the one angle and calls what he sees. Another point of view is everyone else knows it wasnt a red card for Brown and actually should have been a straight yellow for Lafferty because we are looking at replays and seeing it from different angles.
What I'm getting at is..The fourth official is watching it on a screen too and has obviously seen it wasnt a red card but proceeded to let an innocent man get sent off. The fourth official interveined on an incident involving a handball the ref "didnt notice" so why couldnt he have interveined in the sending off??...I wonder
