Celtic Rumours on twitter saying that Neef's family contacted Ibrox yesterday to ask that it be changed to a minutes applause and they refused.
    If this is true :31:

yep,,read something about that too ant,,his daughter mel was made aware of what was going on and contacted rangers to change the silence to applause..They refused her request stating that word had already been sent out that there would be a silence..Horrible if thats true,,knowing they would be going against the family's wishes in a futile attempt point score..

I would urge all tims going tomorrow to respect the man and his family as his family will be in attendance.

    From celticfc.net:

"The club has already extended its condolences to the family of former Rangers player Gerry Neef and we would remind our supporters that Rangers have requested that a minute's silence is observed in the player's memory."

As my mum would say, if the huns jumped off a bridge would you jump off a bridge too?
The point is we are better than them, do not sink as low as they will.

Some of our fans aren't better than them though. We all lloovveeee to say that but if we're gonna be honest that isn't the case. They are elements of our support which put sectarian * first and football second. Not as many as the huns though....I deffo think that. But there will be dafties from our end booing and disrespecting the dead and I wish that wasen't the case. All yous lucky enough to be going just need to marginalise the idiots from our support and you'll do yourself and our club proud.

Well you are exactly the the type of candidte they are hoping will surface on the day.
For FFS it is one minute out of your life, who gives a * if he is unknown, you can alternatively offer up the same one minute to Ronnie Simpson / Bobby Murdoch, Jinky Tommy Burns or whoever else you think is worthy of it, but why not stick to the intended recipient, you just might feel all the better for it.

Neef was their sub in Barcelona in '72. If they disrupted a silence for John Fallon, we'd go utterly beserk, and rightfully so.

Incidentally, 40 games in 5 years is clearly enough for some of you to have such a problem with the man that you can't respect the man in death.

A bunch of attention seeking babies who desperatley need something positive in their lives, that's all it is.

I have no problem with staying silent but rangers know that on and of day there will be an awful lot of drunk fans there, therefore it it is pretty stupid to ask a load of visiting fans to stay quiet a minutes applause would have sufficed.

Sadly we have a few Knuckle draggers of our own who will spoil it - the same few who would crack up at the away support if it happened to one of ours, so yes unfortunately it WILL happen tomo and these sad few will get the headlines and sully our club.

The same pish as "Boruc shouldn't make the sign of the cross because it might incite the Rangers fans".

It is not an unreasonable request to ask people to stay quiet for sixty seconds, or if they are too twisted to do that, stay downstairs until it's done. Or better yet, stay in their own midden and leave us normal folk to it.

Too many people are too eagre to humiliate this club so that they can get a bit of attention in their otherwise empty lives. We should be disowning these idiots, not blaming Rangers for them.

Erm well to be more accurate, it would not have been an unreasonable request, had his family actually requested it.

But as it appears they have specifically requested a minute's applause, and the club has refused, the whole thing takes on an entirely different colour.

And couple it with the fact that they have chosen this same day to parade a British soldier on the pitch at half time, and there's definitely something smelling a bit off here. Why did they not choose to salute this man in their home game during Remembrance Week?

The analogy with Boruc is fundamentally inaccurate, because what he does before a Rangers game is exactly the same as he does before every match. What we're looking at here is a little program of events put together specifically for the Old Firm clash, in order to give the knuckleheads in the Celtic support the maximum opportunity to disgrace themselves.

Rangers' utterly transparent attempts at sectarian point-scoring not only disgrace themselves, but worse, dishonour those people whom they are ostensibly recognising. :38:
