    I think so anyway.

    Villarreal C.F. - Web Oficial

Villarreal B are currently sitting 5th in Division 2 of the Spanish League - they won't win promotion - that's the rules, but their performances have been consistently good.

The first team will harvest some of that talent too in the future.

I really do think that a Celtic B or under 20s team could benefit from playing in the SFL.

Remember Villarreal are a 'wee' team really, so project that onto the Scottish stage.

I've been saying this for years - I really can't find many flaws with such an arrangement. I'd still have the reserves playing against English teams on a regular basis, but a B team in our lower leagues or the English lower leagues can't be anything but a good thing.

    Thoughts?

Good idea, as shaun says though they wouldn't be able to gain promotion or titles though.

the big teams should set up a british reserve league bcoz the standard woud be good and it would also be good for players coming back from injury.just play the games at the training ground, that way you dont pay for policeing.

Only thing is we'd absolutely trump every team in the 2nd division, reserves or not

and then Rangers will want in
    then Aberdeen will want in
then Hearts and Hibs will want in
Then Dundee Utd would want it
    etc etc

you can't let 1 team in and deny the other teams... I will never understand why they scrapped the reserve league in the first place :/

This would just lead to mayhem. If Celtic and Rangers were to do it and say for talkin sake they finish 1st and 2nd then would the team in 3rd b promoted?

A better solution would be to allow them to enter a team in the junior ranks.

Why search high and low for young european talent, provide them with top notch facilities, only to have them experience 'real' matchdays once in a blue moon after several years of nurturing?

I really think a 'B' team is the way to go, it allows the club to keep control over training, sports science & overall development of players that they have worked hard to aquire, as well as providing the competitive element which would help young players adjust to the mental element of playing for the club.

    Spot on.

However as a previous post said if we done this the other SPL team's would all want in!!

Scrapping the Reserve Leauge was a shocking decision!

This would be a good idea, but cant see it happening. I would expect our B/reserve side to win the first division at a canter, what would the point in just winning the same league year after year be. The huns scrapped their reserve side if i remember right because they couldnt afford to keep it running, and knowing how petty they are about things im sure they would have something to say about us trying to do this, which obviously the establishment would go along with.

So while its a good idea i wouldnt hold your breath.

Even if they were able to fund 'B' teams (the reserve league was disbanded because many clubs couldn't afford to commit to it) i'm not sure what the problem would be?

I doubt a B team would win the 1st Division every year, but even so, it's the competitive experience that's the value of the idea.

That said, I would doubt the establishment would fancy giving Celtic the go-ahead to do this or reestablish the reserve league in principle since it's a known fact the Dark Side can't afford it.

Even so, insistence from the club would surely leave them no option - they'd lack any valid reason to refuse.

As for the bandwagon idea of other teasms doing the same...why not. Might improve the standards all round.

I think the club shoould seriosuly examine this idea for its own good and the future of quality home-grown youngsters.

Would you all go and watch these matches?

I think it's a great idea on the basis of seeing your players back from injury or giving the yongsters a taste of the action i do believe thats why spanish teams etc. bring through a lot more talent even in the lower leages..

But on the other hand it could end up costing the clubs more than they make and the poorer teams like Rankers may just go bust :bbpd: although that wouldn't be a bad thing.

If they can find out a way to finance it and all teams agree then i see no reason why not great idea :)

I probably would. I remember that you got reserve games on your season book and they played at Celtic Park when the 1st team was playing away.
Now a don't know about you's but I would rather go to parkhead on a saturday afternoon instead of sitting around doing * all.

You can train all day long and get really fit and hopefully the coaches see enough of you to say to the first team manager ,have a look at him ,but the only way really to impress is through playing ,the reserve league is gone and there is a good few players not playing football due to this so another kind of a league set-up or even X amounts of friendlies and then take it from there to keep this guys match fit.

Exactly mate, there's nothing more rewarding than actually playing in real matches.

Why was the reserve league done away with anyway, does anybody know?
