The thing is Mowbray knows Broonie well from his time at Hibs. I trust Tony to know if he can handle it.

Broonies been through a lot at Celtic and I reckon he will truly succeed

If you actually want to make a comaprison, compare there first three seasons together.

Now either way you look at it it's unfair, Stan can fairly be described as a Celtic legend.

It's unfair on Brown to tag him as his replacement.

You never answered that question btw, do you think a player would play better with a settled partnership of Lambo and Lenny or with a myriad of different partners like Robson, Hartley, Donati, Gary Caldwell etc?

I'm sure others could name a few he has partnered as well that i've missed.

You can't under estimate the value of a settled partnership.

EDIT: Btw everytime I quote you ross mate it * up, very strange.

Sorry but how can they be on totally different levels in scoring stakes.

    1. Stan average 8 a season for us.

    2. Broony scored 7 last season

    3. Broony has averaged 6 a season over his last 3 full seasons as a pro

    4. Broony has averaged 5 for us over two full seasons.

No matter how you look at Broonys state- either 7, 6 or 5 is not on a 'totally different level in the scoring stakes' from Stans average of 8 for us. You are talking about a difference of 1, 2 or 3 goals a season depending on how you look at it. That suggests Stan could be described as a little better than Broony in the scoring stakes.

Note too that for 3 years up to Seville Stan had a fairly free role ina 3-5-2 or 3-4-1-2 protected by Lambo and Lenny while Broony has nearly almost always been one of a pair of defensive CMs in a 4-4-2 that had to protect Naka and Aidan.

Anyway that is my last comment. I have to heed Dempseys comment on repeating the same point to death.:50:

One last thing mate that's distorting the truth a bit.

Many times I can remember Stan being stuck out on the right looking frustrated and that was Lubos role a lot as well.

Stan matured with us though it's natural that everybody leans towards him being vastly superior to Brown; I don't think it's a vast gap but Stans a better player.

No shame in that, Skoosh will prove his worth with us.

I reckon we should close this matter and re-open it at the end of the season to see how we feel about the matter then.

I'm excited to see Broonie in his natural role.

Im not saying he's his replacement but they play the same position so comparisons are inevitable. The comparison came from me only because you mentioned the formation with naka and aiden wide.

Certainly having a settled partner can help, but ultimately everyone has a job in the team and I dont think it can be used as an excuse.

Listen, no one wants the guy to succeed more than me, he's just done nothing to convince me he's worth a place in the team, let alone the captaincy.

    and ...

I have an automatic quote-*-upper for people that argue against me. :icon_mrgreen:

In the MON years it was post-Seville when we played 4-4-2 that that happened. However that doesnt take away the scoring advantage he had by having something not far from a hole role for 3 years in the classic pre-Seville MON 3-5-2. He then played 3 years in either a more CM or wide right role in a 4-4-2 which was somewhat more like Broonts role.

BTW, I agree Stan was better but I do not think it is beyond Broony to close the gap.

That's basically what I want to say; they're completely different players though while being quite simliar.

Broonie has the potential I think there's been differing circumstances for him not hitting the hieghts we expected of him but he was POTY last season on merit.

    Nobody can deny that.

Put me down as another Brown admirer. I honestly believe that keeping Brown fit and the lad finding good form for the rest of the season is our only hope of winning the league this term. We don't have anyone else in the squad who can slot in a central midfield role and drive the team forward the way he does.

it saddens me to say, but TM has thrown in the towel. he has written off this season and looks like he is trying out new things for the remainer of the season. Brown as new captain is concerning, not necessarily a step back (because McManus used to be our old captain), but neither a step forward.

It doesn't matter who the leader on the park is when there is no leader on the sidelines!
