Gunt there was people on here last season that equally didnt rate Brown or Caldwell.

I dont hate the guy, he's just vastly over-rated.

He doesnt score enough goals from CM, doesn't create much, cant control a * football, cant pass, isn't particularly skillfull and has a frustrating habit of running like a nutter for 40 yards before either:

    1) Hitting the ball too far ahead of him and then lunging in with a kamikaze tackle and getting booked

    or

    2) Playing either a bad pass or the wrong pass.

That happens so often it would make u laugh if you didn't want to cry into your half-time badly-over-microwaved steak pie. Watch it the next time he plays and gets on a run.

He also drifts in and out of games and at times looks completely dis-interested. It usually takes an opposition player or referee to * him off before he looks like he cares.

He seems to completely lack passion for Celtic. Just what we need from a captain.

his role was primarily defensive and most of his time was spent in the centre and defensive parts of the pitch. A 4-4-2 with lighweights like Naka and Aidan wide simply demanded two defensive CMs. In fact I do not think that set up would have worked without one CM who was both defensive and mobile. However there was no way that he could really get forward in that role. With Naka, Aidan, Broony, Skippy and JVOH all in attack Hartley would have been in an alamo situation every time the opposition broke up the pitch. I think if people want to see a Hibs or Scotland style Broony then he cannot be one of 2 CMs in a 4-4-2. Either the formation changes or his role in it changes (e.g. wide or at the top of a diamond).

His technique needs work but the bit about passion I do not understand. There is no player who gave more last season. He often plays like a man possessed. If more players had the will to win of Scotty Brown we would not be where we are now. Against Killie half the team didnt seem to care. Broony was exactly what we were missing.

I think broony is the best choice from a bad bunch to be honest. Maybe this is the sort of thing that will spur him on and full his true potential and become the player we expected. Untill we find another mcstay, lennon or mcneil, I think broony is a good call

At Ibrox or in the CL perhaps but not in an average SPL game.

Petrov played the same position with Naka and Aiden on the flanks under WGS, it didnt stop him scoring for fun.

Stan only averaged about 8 goals a season (all competitions) across his 7 full seasons with us. Brown got 7 across all cometitions last season, 3 before that and 8 the year before for Hibs. The gap is not a huge one between Brown and Stan.

BTW, it is also a myth he was once a big scorer at Hibs. His best ever for Hibs was in his final year when he got 8 compared to 7 for Celtic last year. Before that he had only scored 3 or 4 a season. Its amazing how myths build on very little substance.

Dunno where u get that from

Petrov scored 55 goals in 228 games.

A goal every 4 games practically, incredible from a midfielder.

Broonys average in his past 3 seasons was 6. Really we are not alking about a big contrast between Stan and Broony and Stan I think took pens too. He also often played under MON as the man in the hole/free man with Lambo and Lenny minding the shop in a 3-5-2. So considering he had a more attacking role than Broony for much of the time then the small difference really means nothing.

You're forgetting the man called Neil Lennon who was far more effective at the full defending/covering side that it let Petrov push up further.

Paul Hartley had dig and spirit but not Lennys reading of the game; this never let Brown push up further.

Brown had to cover every single blade on the pitch to cover up for other teammates failings to his own detriment; it was no coincedence when a smarter covering player in Crosas came in that Brown started to shine a bit more.

EDIT: Plus Petrov is a class above Scott Brown lets not forget that. We sold Petrov for almost double what Broonie cost us.

mate see post above. Stan averaged 8 a season for Celtic and Broony scored 7 last season, 8 in his last season at Hibs and 6 on average over the last 3 seasons (stats for both are all competitions). So there is no case that one guy scored for fun and the other didnt. The idea Stan was a much higher scorer than Brown is an impression that is not backed up by stats.

    define a much higher scorer?

Brown only got 3 his first season, thats 5 less than 8.

Gunt to even suggest Brown is on the same level as Petrov in the scoring stakes is just pish.

Stats can hide a lot mate.

Petrov matured with us; he started at right back a lot under Barnes and was utilised a lot as a defensive midfielder up until MON had a brainstorm and noticed his attacking prowess; that was when he notched up them goals.

    </td></tr></tbody></table>

Apperances, Goals, Bookings and Red Cards thats his stats in his Celtic career. League record I might add.

Take from that what you will.

The true difference is Stan cost Celtic comparatively little for a good return, Brown has cost us a comparitive fortune for a good return

Heres the clincher though, Stan played infront of or next to Paul Lambert and Neil Lennon for all his Celtic career.

Brown has so far partnered Donati, Crosas, Robson, Hartley, Gary Caldwell etc in his Celtic career.

Which do you think would be more stable to play with and to let your class shine.

Broonie is a fantastic player, get of his back and start supporting.

    Keep The Faith troops:shamrock:

He's not been fully fit for ages but I think there's potential for him to become a top player for us if he's used by TM properly (left back, *???????). Giving him captaincy however is only going to complicate the process of Broony trying to live up to his pricetag. Mowbray does make some * strange desicions, I hope this turns out to be a good one.
