no scottish players started the match last night v killie..aidan mcgeady ok hes scottish but irish in football terms

has that ever happend before?i dont think so..maybe there lies the problem .i think the team should have a few guys who know what the name celtic is all about..and what the club means to a lot of people

thoughts..no scots mean no passion, no passion means no winning

I don't really care if their Scottish mate...as long as we have a few Bhoys who support the club playing (Keane & McGeady).

Arsenal get on fine without English players.

Although we had no scots, both Keane and McGeady are Celts.

I agree to an extent, there's something about scottish players that no other players have, look at the success strachan had when is main players were scottish.

Some of the hardest working players we've had haven't been Scots - Henrik,Sutton,Thompson, Agathe, Mahe to name a few. I don't think it's a case of commitment, just think either some players are not good enough or the system doesn't suit them

The time it happened before a couple of weeks ago was in 2003 when we went to Seville with the best Celtic team I've seen with my own eyes....

It's a bit dissapointing really. Under strachan we had alot of scottish players in the team. I'm all for the foreign players as long as they produce but i think scottish players know the scottish game better than anyone. Some of the foreign players will adapt to it if they're given time, and some just never will :(

It's probably a reflection that Scottish players just aren't consistently good enough and the 1 or 2 who have made any impact in the Premiership (Both the Fletcher's and Mcfadden) would cost too much.. You could argue that there's a strong team to be made of the best 11 Scots available , like a team that can go and beat France in Paris , but the same players then go and get papped by Georgia , and when you disect their qualities (i.e hard to breakdown) you wouldn't see them as attractive players to fit in at Celtic Park where the emphasis is to attack..
If a manager wants to play pretty football then it automatically excludes having a core of Scots players as they no longer fit the criteria , but they can be effective in a hard to beat kinda way , but boring as * to watch...

how many times are we going to hear this. it doesnt matter one toss were a player happens to be born. if he can play, he can play. the fact is for the first half of the season at least, we didnt have enough talent in the team. it's lack of talent thats got us in this position and not lack of Scots

    Same here.

I'm trying to think of the exact team that had no Scots. Possibly...

    Broto
    Mjallby
    Balde
    Valgaeren
    Agathe
    Petrov
    Lennon
    Thompson
    Sutton
    Hartson
    Larsson

Fantastic team , shows that you don't need Scots , just players with the right mind set who really want to go out and win.

shows tony mowbrays intent hed rather pay for foreign players than pay for overrated scotttish players. theres a good few in the championhip doing well but they overvalue them so much.

Couldn't care less if there was no Scots... Team open to all is exactly that. Where in the rule book does it say we need Scots to succeed?

In all honesty there's only a small handful of Scots that are capable of even playing to that high of a standard.

Darren Fletcher and Ross McCormack are the only two Scots i could see in that Celtic side that would make a diffrence even at that im not 100% convinced by McCormack.

keane:-.any one can support a club from afar .but when your in amongst it all your life and to taste the rivalry close up i think that's the difference in being a supporter to a passionate player.

i guess no starting player except mcgeady was brought through the youth academy, that where mcmanus was useful

There is no doubt from watching our national team over the years and us under WGS in the CL that Scottish players have a never say die ability to punch above their weight that no other country does. OK its only brought limited success but there have been some amazing results against top teams. I think this is in the blood - even though we had a much bigger neighbour on our doorstep attacking us for 700s years, we were able to keep their huge armies out of our borders (with the exception of a few years here and there) until our king James IV inherited England and chose to be form Britain in 1603. We were never colonised. Only a people with something special about them can do that. That streak of incredible stubborness and will to topple giants is in the national character. To some extent its also in the British Isles players in general but I think us Scots top the lot.

Much maligned though they were, the mainly Scottish spine of Artur-Caldwell-McManus-Robson-Broony-Hartley-Skippy (Scottish family)-JVOH punched way above their weight and while they won the last 2 of 3 in a row they also did the last 16 twice.
