My thanks to those of you who have contributed to this discussion these past few days, both pro and con. Many points have been made, including who the sponsor is, what their business is and of course, the bottom line, amongst a number of others.

The objection is to the continuance of joint sponsorship with Scotland's Shame, and to encourage as many people as possible to buy next season's kit WITHOUT the sponsor.

Between this thread, and chats I have had with people in passing, there appears to be enough interest to warrent further discussion. There is a meeting at St. Mary's later this month, with a number of CSCs, and as it is an open forum I hope to be present on the day to present the idea for discussion on that occasion, to see if some common ground can be found.

My hope is that enough Tims can be mobilized to participate, to make it an effective exercise... and that this is not the last you will see of this matter.

    Once again, my sincere gratitude.

i don't like the club promoting alcohol in the slightest, but the club have secured the money for the deal & if u don't want to wear a top with the sponsors name on it them do as i do & buy one without.

    OOOOOOOOOO:93:

Well we all couldn't afford crates Kronenburg Blanc when we were students.

What a pathetic excuse. Carling and Tennents are almost identical in taste except one is English and 0.1% stronger

I don't drink Tennents now but I grew up with it and have fond memories, blurry ones but memories none the less.

Celtic announce shirt deal with Tennent's Lager

Started looking on 'their' site, briefly, before it started making me feel ill. I would imagine it would have said someething along the lines of 'boot lick, grovel, rimjob, arsekiss, rimjob, we are peepul, tennants is the drink of peepul, tennants can be the fuel that fires the peepul when abroad, rimjob, grateful for any money coming in - at all - ever, peepul will rise again thanks to Tennants, arsekss, rimjob, grovel, grovel, lick'.

Am sure the laptop loyal used more eloquent language when relaying the news, but between the lines it would've been much the same.

Why are so many people talking about Tennants? It is Tennent's and it tastes like the water I use to do the dishes.

I am a bit dissappointed that again it is a beer sponsor. It just does not feel right, walking on the street as a beer billboard (when I wear a Celtic top)...

I am probably going for a top without sponsor next year.

Its not about a red T. This isnt about fashion. Its about principles, about opposing joint sponsorship, and indeed, there are those who object to who the sponsor is. There are a number of valid reasons worthy for consideration.

All that is being advocated here is that when the new season's shirt is released, that fans purchase genuine Celtic shirts WITHOUT the sponsor be bought from official Celtic stores and retailers, including the Celtic website.

Again, its the principle against the joint sponsorship, first and foremost. As for the point about it being a local company, you seem to suggest this is a good thing. What it reveals is a small mentality on the part of the board, for if Celtic is really has aspirations as a global brand, why agree terms with a business that has extremely limited appeal & market outside of Scotland?

Do you think this boycott campaign will achieve a single sponsorship for Celtic?

The money from Tennants has been secured, and the team will wear shirts with thier logo regardless. By buying shirts without the sponsor the club is not losing out financially in the immediate future.

By having a seperate sponsor we are no longer financially aligning ourselves with R******. The next time Scotland's Shame go on the rampage in some foreign city, and TV cameras capture images of thugs in blueshirts emboldened by a brand which we share - is that something that is going to attract sponsors?

Unfortunately mate, if we had an SPL without Rangers we would go * up too. Same for them if there were no celtic.

Neither of us can live without the other. Sky payes big money to have 4 old firm games shown. Active nation Scottish cup, and CIS pay good money in the hope that there is an old-firm Cup final.

Financially we would be humped. We would win every title in Scotland, but with no competition

Couldnt have put it better myself! celtic and rangers both need each other.....and to be honest....even if celtic were guarenteed to stay alive and financially sound without rangers, i would still hate for rangers to collapse. They are a massive club.....and i would miss our matches 4 times a year! One of the greatest atmospheres in football history!
