So all this for the casual observer?? * them and their opinion. Couldnt give a toss about an ignorant opinion

If association with Rangers was costing us money, we wouldnt be involved with them. It isnt. Giving up money because it would see rangers get even less isnt a good stategy as we have aspirations outside of the SPL. Turning down significant money so that we may or may not get a better deal than Rangers is a silly risk.

We arent defined by our joint sponsorship, being referred to the Old Firm isnt because of our joint sponsorship arrangement. It goes far deeper into the rivalry. Face it, they are our rivals and the coined phrase, "Old Firm" will not die because we dont have the same sponsors.

The majority of people who buy the kits are young children and with no sponsor being on their tops it wouldn't make a difference. I hate the fact that we have to do sponsorhip deals with them, but no brand in their right mind would sponsor one half and not the other. Prime example - i bet theres alot of fans on this forum who don't drink McEwan's Lager - and not just for the reason that it probably tastes pish.

I respect what you are saying Dempsey, but this is part of the problem as to why we are struggling to attract other potential sponsorship that isn't being dredged from a brand that has extremely limited appeal outside of Scotland.

Again, I am not accusing Lawwell of having dropped the ball here, however, take for example, that late last year, with the knowledge that the current deal was winding down, that as part of his travels to Korea for the Ki signing, part of his mission would've been to suss out interest from potential suitors in that part of the world. Given the recent influx of Asian playes that have been brought to Celtic, it is natural to assume that out exposure would have been expanded significantly over the past few seasons. Maybe there wasn't sufficiant interest... maybe the terms were not agreeable... or maybe it was a case of getting into bed with the devil you know, than the devil you don't.

It is only a supposition. I agree with you, thaat we are not definad by our sponsorship, however as you yourself have conceded, Celtic do have aspirations beyond Scotland. Therefore if Celtic really want to be recognised as a global brand, then they need partnership with brands that will have appeal beyond Scotland. And that means thinking beyond the 'til death do we part' mentality, of us & them, and that is it, no?

    Couldn't care less.

Its nothing new for a company to sponsor both clubs as they don't want the repercussions of getting in to bed with one or the other.

Just look at the disasters a certain JJB suffered. :bbpd:

Any such daft campaigns would just make us look narrow-minded and encourage any future sponsors to run a mile.

I'm more concerned with the team itself than which * lager is on the jersey.

doubt they will put red T on shirts, would look like peoples ford sponsor early 90s!
Probably have the brand written in black as it is on scottish cup stuff, that said, we should be able to attract someone better than this. nd we should NOT be getting into bed with the huns

That was my point, as I said in an earlier post, maybe my personal objection to alcohol sponsorship shouldn't have been in the OP, as the point was directed more at not having a joint sponsorship, and further to that, if Celtic are looking to expand the global profile, why take a sponsor that has extremely limited appeal outside of Scotland.

I don't think that tennants would offer sponsorship to just one of the "old firm" as they would loose custom from the other half .
The only way a Scottish sponsor can benefit is by joint sponsorship.

    I agree mate!
I think that Celtic would be much better off getting a company like Samsung (only an example) as their sponsor as I think a foreign company would improve Celtic's Global appeal. A potential foreign sponsor might be more willing to pay us a higher fee as a great club like Celtic is watched by millions therefore generating more money for them, compared to Tennants or any local brands for that matter, who won't sell more units because they sponsor the OF, everyone knows Tennants is *!
In my opinion Celtic would benefit more from a different sponsor compared to the others because their name has been dragged through the * lately with crowd trouble etc.

these things are neccessary from a business point of view, is there really any need to kick up about it? Like it or not we'll never be considered separate from rangers from an outside perspective.

if you really support our club do your bit by buying the top regardless of sponser or affiliation with the huns, the club doesn't need fans like you who say boycott this, protest against that.

I'm the same bud, especially the hoops - that looks much better without the sponsor.

Had you read through the thread you would have seen that I have NEVER advocated boycotting Celtic, nor said don't buy a shirt, because you can still get offical Celtic shirts from the Celtic stores WITHOUT the sponsor.

The money from the deal is done. For the next 3 years the team will wear shirts with the sponsor regardless of personal opinion. And if we, as fans, buy shirts from the stores, then the club is not losing out on the revenue these sales generate, so there is no loss there either.

However, if a significant proportion of Tims buy shirts without sponsorship, it sends a clear message that the next time the such deals need to be made that they will think twice about doing joint deals, even if it doesnt deter them from the kind of business they are willing to have advertised on the kit.

As for saying the club doesnt need fans like me, that is uncalled for and seriously unwarrented. How am I harming the club, but advocating that fans buy genuine Celtic strips from official Celtic stores WITHOUT a sponsor?

I'm not going to buy any shirt with the sponsor.

Frankly, we should not have bevvy plastered on the Hoops any more, nor should we be in league with the Hun, nor do I want to wear what is going to be a hideous get-up advertising stinkingly crap jakey juice.

Personally I believe we should have a sponsor which all age groups can wear, every tim should be able to wear the same sponsor, including the kiddies.

Again, I dont wear the hoops with a sponsor - looks much better without in my opinion:50:

    +1

I don't like sponsors besmirching the Hoops either, and a big * red 'T' is goin to look more hideous than pretty much any we've had.

Sponsorless shirt (again) for me next season.
