Can we keep Keane

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Celtic for life, Feb 3, 2010.

  1. Simple question. Does anyone think Keane will stay with us beyond his loan period.

  2. Depends if he does well and enjoys it. IF we won the league and get Champions League football i think he would find it to hard to go. But how much would we need to spay for him?? Spurs wont let him go cheap. I mean did they not pay 12 mil to get him back??

  3. Erm....no!

  4. Lets just focus on the league and improving before we start discussing any possible extension to Keane's stay.

  5. Nope but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

  6. i dont think he will. he is still young enough so i think he will want to still be playing premier league football. whether or not it is with spurs i wouldnt be to sure. would celtic have the money even if he decided to stay for a fairly hefty transfer fee? somewhere between 5-10 million.

  7. Would love it , don't see why not .. We give them Aiden and Brouc and they let us keep Keane , that frees up the wages for him aswell!

  8. id give boruc away for free to be honest.:bbpd:

  9. Lets let him prove himself in the SPL first.

  10. the fact is we cant. too much money. the league is gone now. should we just cancel the loan now and save ourselves 1.5 million? imo we should. we could buy nguemo for that but after his performance last night im not so sure we should even do that!

  11. keane will boost ticket sales, all the shirts he will sell and he has brought a massive profile to the SPL. just him been there is good for scottish football. hope he scores a bagfull along the way.

  12. Well isn't that Dermot Desmond meant to be helping us out with this one? So he might pull a rabbit out the hat for us, but I think is Spurs want more than £7-8Million for him, We can kiss that idea goodbye, but wait & see. I don't think Lawwell would have came out & said we might look to keep him beyond the loan deal, if he didn't have something up his sleeve..

  13. Imo Keane was only brought in to sweeten the fans and get us back to the games and buy merchandise. Dont get me wrong am delighted hes here, hes a a genuine top drawer player who can only improve us, but the leagues over, and now we have to concentrate on getting 2nd as Hibs can go 2nd with there game in hand. The only way we could keep him is swap Boruc/McGeady (or both) plus cash to get him to come here, and he would have to take a paycut.

  14. I was thinking that to m8. Thoguht he has something up his sleeve

  15. Don't think so, think it's purely a short term deal.
The fact that Keane deflects away from the issue tells me he's only here to fulfill his ambition to play for the club, but don't expect to see him here next season.

A while back there might have been a possible swap deal on, Boruc, McGeady & Brown have all been linked with Spurs in the past, but the form that Boruc & McGeady are showing makes me think we'd be lucky to get £3-£4 Million for each of them.

Boruc used to be one of the best keepers in europe, now he doesn't even look the best in Scotland or maybe even at Celtic.
McGeady is too lightweight, can't get a decent cross in, shoot or find the consistency to survive in the EPL.

wages are too much cant afford to pay them

  16. Honest answer no. He is only here for a few months and i really doubt he'll want to spend the enxt few years up here in the SPL.

Wages for one is a massive stumbling block. Also his transfer fee too as Spurs would want in the region of up to £10 million maybe even more. Celtic cannot afford a layout like that.

If Keane was getting a game more regularly at Spurs he would not be here. But i woul love him to stay.

  17. robbie turned down wolves on deadline day to go to celtic. this from the wolves chairman.

He said: “We asked about Robbie Keane and I spoke to Tottenham on a couple of occasions. We knew what his wages were and we would have done that but he wasn’t going to come to us.

“Almost every loan at this level also comes with a really hefty fee, but we would have pushed the boat out to get Robbie. In the end, though, the opportunity to fulfil a lifetime’s ambition to play for Celtic was too much of a pull.”

  18. aye but wolves are shyte

  19. well ya but he could have stayed in the premier league. just shows what this chance to play for celtic must mean to him.:50:
