Just read finished reading this great wee article on monthehoops

Haven't heard anything about this date rape accusation but if it is a Rangers player (McGregor) and the tabloids know it is then they have sunk to a new low.

Makes a gOOd point on how Celtic alone would probably be welcomed to the EPL.

    End the Old Firm? Views...

I am very guilty of using the Old Firm tag. I do that a lot. In fact I'm going to make that my New Year's resolution......to stop using the Old Firm tag.

The only thing we have in common with 'them' is that we are too big for this poxy league that we play in. In every other way, shape and form we are nothing like those bigoted, braindead dungbeetles.

I'm the same mate, I stop calling it the OF for a while then I slipped right back into it. Maybe we should all change our avatar for a wee while to the 'Time to Walk Alone' pic.

Great wee point about Lennon and Boruc. They we never tagged as OF players but whenever it's one of them we're brought into it.

It's an interesting article for sure. I do however think that the guy writing it has been a bit naive in one respect. Any TV deal that Scottish Football gets, whether it be from the BBC - Setanta - Sky or whoever, is gotten largely on the back of the four Celtic v Rangers fixtures in the League calendar. There can be no question about that. If this fixture ever lost it's edge or it's sparkle then it's highly debatable as to whether Sky would have any interest in Scottish Football whatsoever. For the writer of this article to say 'to * with the derby' well I'm sorry but I just don't agree with that. I look forward to the matches against Rangers more than ANY other fixtures. Way more than the Champions League. We need the derby fixture to stay strong, vibrant, passionate and interesting or the TV revenues which are already miniscule would diminish even further in my opinion.

Other than that, I think he has made some very good points in his article.

I am not a fan of McGregor and I don't know what he has done! But kangaroo court springs to mind here!
Also is Donald Findlay taking up his case? -
If so I know the outcome before the case starts!
I know I have contracticted (o talked in riddles) myself here but that is what the Scottish Judicial system is good at!

Yeah i read the article about the date rape claim in the sun online and it refers to a old firm player? now it turns out allegedly to be A McGregor from the Huns...so we are now dragged into this when it has absolutely nothing to do with Celtic..how low do these journalist get in that paper and tarnish our club name even if its not directly aimed at us..shame on them!

I don't really see the fuss, If McGregor did something It really doesn't have anything to do with Rangers or Celtic, they cant be responsible for his actions outside of football so there is no 'guilt by association' no one is going to think the teams Harbour rapists or anything. The situation in Manchester was different and Rangers general thuggery because its easy to use 'old firm' and become associated with that but I think this is a bit different

We know it's not exactly about the clubs but it was the usage of the Old Firm tag and the picture of Celtic Park in the article when they knew it was Alan McGregor they were talking about.

Good article and a good read.
Unfortunately football is big business now and whether we like it or not, TV is only here because we play the knuckle draggers 4 times a year.
    Babe Ruth said famously:
The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club wont be worth a dime.
We have to be successful on the pitch to be a great business and concern, but if that means we still have to play in Scotland (as against a Phoenix or English League); Rangers will still be hanging on our coat tails.
We should sleep safe in the knowledge that they are NOTHING without us and when we get back to being the dominant force in Scotland, they will be struggling with Kilmarnock.
Like Portsmouth in the EPL; if your business model is hoping and praying that you stay in the EPL to get the bucks, then us being dominant will destroy them for the foreseeable future.
I hoped and prayed that we would have won the league last year, because they would be 4th from bottom now!!

Please use this thread to discuss whether the term Old Firm should be binned, not any allegations surrounding McGregor, there's a thread in Scottish Football for discussing that particular news story.

The sun do that to try and wind everyone up, it is what they are all about, they want to get a little rise out of people by doing things like this, that's why I and probably everyone in Liverpool doesn't buy it. Sometimes its us that gets it sometimes its Rangers. Its actually a bit cynical what they do, If you ever read any article about Paul mcartneys ex wife they always always refer to her as 'the ex prostitute' which she has always denied and really hates, they continued to do it after she admitted she was suicidal.. Its done to get a rise.. they turn Journalism in to a media soap opera for the hard of thinking

Don not get on the wrong side of Danni "the serial threat closer" Ghirl, this person will close the thread before you know it.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

I think the article is correct on a number of points, however until we can go it allow out with the SPL we are always going to have this prob. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
The EPL don’t want us, I know the smaller teams had a big say in this however I bet apart of this discussion was due to the trouble that the "Old Firm" bring with their travelling support.

Really good article, I agree with everythig he says. Next season we should not have the same sponsor as them. Even if we make a public appeal though, the press will continue to use the term old firm, they need a way to drag us down every time rangers get into bother

have u seen a handsome hun
for over a year now i have binned the OF moniker and have described that match as the derby match. i never feel the need to use the term outwith our clashes with them as i dont feel the need to discuss that club in tandem with our own. the media will not stop using it and therfor it wont go...but i hope celtic fans bin the term.

Any particular reason a link to the article was removed?

    Cheers
