Beating someone up for their opinion? Sounds like hunnery to me.

Can we please stop suggesting each other are "hunnish" and get back to discussing whether or not rebel songs should be sung at Celtic games or the thread will be closed.

Yes he does, if you a few pages back then you will find it.

If it was just simply an opinion then I would wholeheartedly agree. However if some one started belted out the famine song in a Celtic pub then they would get a kicking. That song is basically about us "* off back to Ireland" So there was similarities to the comment and the famine song imo.

I was referring to the "supporters" who would like those singing rebel songs to * off back to Ireland. I believe they would without a doubt they are in the minority.

Hahaha aye ok then buddy  I don't think people with views like myself would be too welcome at Ibrox, in fact they would probably want to wade through my blood.

As I said to Santamaras :

That song is basically about us "* off back to Ireland" So there was similarities to the comment and the famine song imo. Both are offensive.

I addressed these points because I do not want to be known as someone who advocates beatings getting handed out to people I disagree with. So I apologise if it has taken the thread off topic a little bit :shamrock:

Post of the century. Any Scottish born person who uses the term Jock ever in their life is a dillusional moron. Basically they are saying its OK to get all patriotic about a country you never lived in but its Tartan comedy time if you actually celebrate Scottishness. For those knuckle draggers they basically say Celtic is for all cultures and religions as long as its Irish catholic. That attitude and the lack of true Celticness as opposed to just Irishness scares many fans off from Celtic. If Celtic really was more even handed and celebrated the Scottish gaelic, highland and general Scottish historical stuff it would clean up in large areas of Scotland, especially the north. But because of the heavy specifically Irish republican stuff with no real Scottish counterbalance, people who feel Scottish are repelled and even driven into the hands of Rangers. I totally agree about the lack of taking Scottish independance or Scottish culture seriously by the Irish and the would be Irish. When you get these clowns making jokes about kilts and Jocks and being tight etc in a big Scots accent and dialect they make themselves look very stupid and seem rather like English. The Irish demand huge amount of kid gloves respect and expect detailed understanding of their politicsm history and culture by Scottish Celts but few really return this in anything like similar manner to Scots. There are still uneducated backwards elements whose main focus is on contrasing everythng Irish and catholic with Scottish thngs which they just see as * stuff. They see an Irish v Scottish clash as part of their sectarian catholic v Prod 2 tribes view of Scottish society. They are basicaly green huns. Bringing kids up that way is child abuse IMO.

Really do not see how supporters could associate Scotland with the union when we have an SNP administration. In fact a Scottish flag is a sort of statement because it is what you get if you strip back the unionist elements of the last 400 years from union jack back to the national flag of Scotland. I think the linking of it with the union is from northern Irish Celts who have seen loyalists use it to mark their Scottish ancestry in much the same way the tricolour is used at Celtic to mark Irish ancestry. In Scotland it is more seen as an independence symbol.

Fair enough but we Celts are also Scots and Kelts not Irish only and I would like to see us sing our own national anthem FLower of Scotland too. There are too many Scots who are all for Irish nationalism but do not show any interest for it in Scotand and act like unionists voting for Labour etc in Scotland rather than SNP or SSP. That IMO makes them a joke and inconsistent.

I had this discussion with my Irish Grandfather the other day. He told me that Parkhead is not the place for rebel songs and I think he almost feels like his nation is being mocked when the soldiers song is sung at games !

I also personally agree that rebel songs should not be sung at Celtic Park or at any other football grounds, yes it might generate a better atmosphere but I prefer football to be football without politics etc involved.

He was getting at the fact that if we sing the Irish National Anthem, then us being SCOTTISH should sing FOS too.

I'd never actually even thought of that. Never heard FOS sung at Celtic Park, but hear a Soldier's Song near enough every week.

Because if there are any national anthems being sung then surely a a 80% Scottish support should sing that of Scotland. I have nothing against the Soldier Song but it is not my national anthem and it just always feels wrong when it is sung and flower is not, especially in European games. Its the same with flags. I would like to see a saltire (green if it must be) for every tricolour. Celebrating the heritage of the great great grandparents is one thing but if it is completely at the expense of your more recent Scottish heritage then that is warped IMO.

:50: Got it. Thank you Gunt. explained here. But none of these songs have anything to do with football, so should be sung in the correct premisses.
The Shebeen, House. Pub. Supporters Bus. Home. On Ipod Touch. But not at a sporting event.

People saying keep politics out of football. Pardon me if i'm wrong but was it not because of politics that Glasgow Celtic was founded, as a charitible orginisation to help put dinner on the tables of the Irish immigrants in Glasgow's east end? as the Irish were being discriminated against in the working world.

And for the record i voted yes, politics is a daily occurence and all around us in football. Songs that are not sectarian racist sexist etc are fine to be sung imo

    over and out
