As a avid student in the art of beer I have a very stong opinion on the sunject of American made beer, it sucks. Besides Sam Adams and a selection of microbreweries, american beer is *-awful. I prefer to Belhaven, Newcastle, Dos Equis, Harp, or an assortment of beers from Germany and Europe in general, of course whenever I am in the pub I get Guinness, but only on tap. And I think anyone who drinks any light beer besides Amstel should be shot.

when it comes to alcohol, particluary beer, i'm not too fussy; yes the likes of Bud, Carling and Tennants are a bit * but hey a beer is a beer! going to america in june for three months so no doubt will sample plenty of americas good and not so good brews!

dont mind a Peroni or a Moretti :50: though whenever i see it in Glasgow its always near a fiver for a pint of it :38: gimme a £1 tennants from the student union anyday!

p.s since the thread is about americans i've got a question; is it me or are americans utter lightweights? no offence intended and it probably says more about scottish drinking habits than american lol but whenever i've drank with americans they always seem well on the way to being half cut after a pint or two whereas i'm just getting warmed up :icon_mrgreen:

always thought it must have something to do with the drinking age being 21 but then again being underage didnt stop me lol

i've been told by one of mates who was in america the last few summers never to challenge Americans to a drinking competition as you will most likely win; must be our iron livers lol

Scots, Irish, Russians, and English tend to be able to drink more than Americans. It's more institutionalized those places I think. Seeing a Scot, Irishman, etc. try to out smoke an American (at least native Californian) on the otherhand is funny to see.

Mostly true if your out in LA they cant handle anything, but in
New York, Boston, or Milwaukee you would get a run for your money because of the large Irish Population.

as an American I can say most Americans (including myself) are relative lightweights. except for people in milwuakee. the birds in milwaukee will outdrink any scot, russian, irishman etc every day of the week and twice on saturday night for good measure. those people are completely inhuman in their alcohol and nicotine intake. consequently, the city is a very fun time.

also, if you want to know about a particular beer for a trip you are taking to the states, it would be helpful to mention where in the states you are going. there are many microbrews that are only regional in nature but are important to know of. for instance, the rocky mts./texas have a beer called fat tire, which is exceptional. chicago has a beer called goose island which is quite good. in the northeast, there's sam adams. in the mid-atlantic and many parts of the south, there's yuengling. and so on..........

So true. Texas alone is three times the size of Britain. A lot of regional differences in the states, not just beer.

Yeah, Microbreweries are fun. San Diego's Stone Brewing Co. has an awesome beer that is worth buying for the name/bottle alone.

I'm not American but I spent 6 months in Northern America.

    Bud is *
    cOOrs is *
    Miller is *

    Sam Adams is nice
    Milliwakee Best is nice
    Natural Ice is nice

I know Mil Best and Nat Ice are the cheap * but I thought they were less watery than the expensive stuff.

In New Orleans before hitting Bourbon Street I had two bottles of Nightrain Fortified Wine and a 12 pack of Nat Ice and it's was only $10!!! £6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tremendous!!

I also paid £5 for a pint of Tennents in Toronto to see if it tasted the same. It did :(
