I don't remember this ever being an issue in the 12 years I've been going to celtic park until the last 2-3 years. As many, many people have said don't wear a poppy, don't enter the ground during the minutes silence. End of. Celtic football clubs amazing reputation would be in tatters due to some ignorant people protesting rememberence of ALL soldiers that fought and died, not just brittish. But feel free if you want to ruin celtic supporters reputation.

If that is the case, then by extension, the ten men who died at Long Kesh on hunger strike died for my freedom, and for the thousands elsewhere in the north, to support Celtic without fear of physical violence or intimidation, so would you endorse a minute silence at CP for Bobby Sands?

    I for one wouldn't!

I think the majority of this thread is aimed at asking people not too boo or disgrace the club during the minutes silence, it's to try and tell you, you have to wear a poppy or donate to anything.

Listen, I don't care who the poppy remembers, but it is what it is used to symbolise in my home country that annoys me. Fair enough, it might not be used to the same end in Scotland, but I know Celtic fans understand sectarianism, most experiencing it in it's rawest form.

Im neither ignorant, nor bitter. I would ask the club to take the middle road. Donate money to the foundation, but not force me and the thousands of other "idiots" to celebrate sectartianism in the North of Ireland!

It's not really about "You must wear a red poppy!" It's more about respecting your fellow supporters & our club by keeping quiet for 60seconds before the game.

How is a minute silence not forcing?

The only protest you have is to make noise, and if you do your called an idiot!

Point in case: Cliftonville held a minute silence for David Ervine, an ex-UVF man who had killed catholics. We booed to show our disdain, end of!

Not sure if you live in the UK but if you do i'm afraid to say it's not the proceeds from poppy sales, but rather your hard earned taxes that fund the wars you speak about.

Alot of people dont seem to understand why folk dont want to wear a poppy, and keep associating it to the 2 world wars which is not the case....by buying a poppy you donate to the british army via the british legion.

I am not a brit mate, i regard myself as a scot with irish blood. I am going to the game on sunday, but i will not enter the stadium untill the silence has been observed.
As for celtic, they are not a brit club, they are a club that came about from humble beginings by irishmen. The club is scottish and irish not british.
As for reid, what did he say about politics, keep it away from the ground.
Then celtic were forced to wear that poppy on the strip last year when many english sides didnt bother.
I would have thought the players should have had the choice, if they didnt want to have a poppy on their top last year they shouldnt have been forced too.

I hope the celtic top has nothing but the irish shamrock, four leaf clover this sunday. This would be a mark of respect to the people who founded the club.

Scotland and Ireland have suffered at the hands of brit rule........

You are not forced, if you have a problem with Celtic\Falkirk showing there condolences to the fallen, then don't go in till KO.
They have to do it, there will be no other club refusing and it might look a wee bit silly then eh?

    :icon_mrgreen: Super point!

The money used to go to the dependents of dead soldiers WW1, but I dare say theres not too many from WW1 still about, thats another point I have against the poppy!

The state, ie the tax payer, pays for soldiers and their dependents now, so the money is now reinvested into charity salaries and the state!

Loved it when I was on the dole. People always used to say "sure your taking your money from the Brits!". As opposed to working and giving them tax. Or doing my shopping and paying tax! I could go on........

I do understand why folk don't want to, but celtic have chose to commemorate it so it's a case of "go in if you want to, stay out if you don't".

It seems an easy solution to me, but then apparently I drink Peach Shnappes.:97:

I said British based, not british. I myself say I'm Scottish but when it comes down to it I have a British passport which makes me British in a sense.

I whole heartedly agree that politics should be kept away from football especially when this weekend comes round every year its the same nonsense that arises.
