It's one minute, if you dont want to use that minute to remember the people that fought and died in these wars then dont, decide what your having for tea but have enough respect for those people, your fellow Celtic supporters and Celtic FC in general by not making a fool of yourself and the club.

See, anyone can have their opinions or feelings, nobody is saying you have to have the 'right' view in some ways. Just don't say anything for a minute, it's easy even if you don't agree with it just focus on something. thats what i would do.

Sounds cheesy that i know, but if u dont actually agree with it all- though i do, just chill about it, THINK OF THE CLUB

I was born in 1943 and was phisycally touched by a few men who went and gave their lives for all of our freedom. Two Irish uncles.
I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would even think about disrespecting a request for a moments silence for those brave people. I know recently there has been soldiers from other wars added to this but you do not have to think about them during that moment.
We all have the choice to respect the moment or ignore it and that too is fine as long as it is done with dignity and not spoiling it for others.

    * sake even good soldiers respected their enemy.

What part of what I said was bigoted? Explain yourself please? What makes me cringe is turning on the T.V to thousands of innocent men, women and children being killed in Iraq and Afgan! and not for the fight against fascismbut for oil pure and simple!! and people like you who glorify it and then call me a bigot for expressing my view!! :31::31::31:

If there was no British Army then we'd:
    a) Have Hitler over here running the show or
    b) Have Saddam Hussein killing many more innocent people or
    c) Have Bin-Laden and the Taliban over here blowing us up.

And you don't respect these people? :97:

When I think of poppys and remembrence day in general, my first thoughts are WW1 and secondly WW2, this is just my personal thoughts. Of course I understand it should symbolise all the war deaths and stuff, I understand that.

In regards to WW2, I would ask anyone who wishes to boo or taint the occasion, to think of the dead and old veterans fighting the Germans, Italians etc. These people symbolised a very evil regime (*'s, facists) that I feel we should ALL be against.

The tommys in WW1 died by the hundreds of thousands as young nieve lads, and I think that can only be remembered as a sad tragic piece of history. Our history if we like it or not. The dead should not be forgotten and these kids died at the Somme as young men, not as political puppets. We should remember that I think.

I think all fans including yourself should obey the minutes silence. When you say "Illegally occupying your country" Could you elaborate on that. Reason being is that the only reason that the British Army were on the streets of N Ireland in the 60's through to the naughties was because the Catholic population asked them to be there to keep peace. That leads me to say that them being there was not illegal as they were invited.

I am not going to post in this thread anymore. I dont really care what happens on sunday. All I can say is if the fans who are planning to boo or turn their backs or whatever it is they get their kicks from. The clubs good reputation will quickly go downhill on this 1 single day. All the hard work we do each season will be for nothing. It horrors me to think that some people just cant leave the past where it belongs.

For all the fans out there who are doing the decent thing and obeying the silence or just not coming into the ground until after. I applaud you.

The whole world will be watching this on sunday.

The most embarrasing thing i have ever seen as a Celtic supporter was last years round of APPLAUSE,i am hoping this Sunday isnt another shameful episode, somehow i doubt it.

On the other side of the coin, several people have challenged why we shouldn't we wear the poppy?

Can I point out firstly, that we, as a club, should not endorse any political, or military, organisation. Be it the IRA, British Army whatever! We are a football club. Whether it is a minute silence for ten men who died on hunger strike or for ten thousand who died in the Somme, neither died for Celtic, or for it's supporters, so it has no place at Celtic Park, and it should not be forced on any club, or organisation, to support it.

Secondly, as a Celtic fan living in Belfast, I can say that here, and in England, the poppy is used to symbolise British nationalism. For me that is an unacceptable reminder of the years of terror we faced, which is never reported,at the hands of the British state in my home city. Maybe it is unfair of me to think people will automatically sympathise but then those same people who wear the poppy endorse the slaughter of the innocent on the streets of Derry, on the streets of Baghdad etc.

I think it's just a bit hilarious that it's 11 years from the ceasefire and already people have begun to believe that the IRA terrorised everyone across the world, whilst the British heroes tried to stop them!

There's bound to be a few morons booing on sunday, it's when everybody else reacts to these showmen it turns into a complete shambles. My advice for fans who are respecting the minutes silence, just relax & don't rise to the bait.:50:

Those who died during the 2 WW's died for me and every other Celtic fan, indeed they died for the freedom of all, without their sacrifice we would not have the freedoms that are taken for granted by so many today.

I chose not to wear a poppy but respect others right to wear one. Wearing a poppy does not glorify the British army, it is not an endorsement of the British Armed Forces, for many it is a simple act of remembrance.

I got as far as post 2 in this thread.

It seems alot of people think the red poppy is all about remembering those who fought in WWI and WWII.

    Well it is'nt.

So no one has the right to tell me or anyone else who doesnt want to wear a poppy or give donations to the british army..that we should be wearing it.

I respect those who fought and died in both wars....but no way am i donating money to todays army.

If you dont want to wear it dont...if you do want to wear it then do so...but respect other peoples opinions on this saga.

It was not my intention to be offensive, far from it, what I was saying was that Celtic is a non-politcal organisation, and to ironically quote the INLA, "one out, all out". You get rid of ALL political symbols etc. By no means am I saying you musn't wear a poppy, but by all means respect my decision not to endorse it!
