seems every time paddy comes on ..the commentators puff and blow about his wonder goals..rightly so..but do you think that he is in danger of falling into the one trick pony trap? seems he is trying too hard to replicate the goals and the way he scored them!??

no doubt of his ability..but he has his head down and bulls on in..yes he will get through from time to time and scores..and that is what can change a game..but i just think if he lifts his head and picks out a passing opportunity..it might be better?

    thoughts?

I think the head down, charge like a bull thing, is just the way he plays mate.
He needs a run of games to see if this is the case.

Ye couldn’t agree more, he is without a doubt a very skilful player but seems to try too much when he gets the ball and lost it most of the time last nite when he tried to take people on! He needs to become more of a team player aswell, is it any coincidence that Hearts got a lot of joy down the left hand side in the 2nd half last nite, paddy doesn’t do any work unless he has the ball and for that very reason, I don’t think he is ready to be a regular in the team! <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

he does tend to over do it a bit, but i thought last night against hearts he picked out some nice passes as well

once he gets a few more games under his belt he will realise that he cant beat players all the time and will learn when to pick his pass and when to go on another mazy dribble

I think it would be unfair to start saying these types of things after only 3 full starts as a Celtic player, to be fair to the guy.

Too many folk are looking for places to levvy the blame.

Game 1: Runs the show and lobs the keeper for player of the round. (Vs Falkirk)

Game 2: Plays well and beats half a team and scores a goal. (vs St. Mirren)

Game 3: Comes on against Hearts and skins a few players before nearly bending the bar with a rocket shot...

I can't see where this thread is holding water?

Out of all the players who have played this season the only two who i've thought can offer us match winning moments of either great goals or hold up play to get everyone else forward are Paddy McCourt and Marc Fortune

Keep having to hit edit because i keep forgetting to add stuff in! haha...

    - This season i have horrible feelings most times throughout games while still showing my support but when McCourt gets on the ball i don't panic at all...

It's getting to the stage where you can predict whats going to happen with our players:

McDonald, recieve a pass from whomever control it like a T-rex and lose possession.

Samaras, try to take on a full team and lose the ball to a tackle that wouldn't dis-possess a 3 year old.

Naylor, make good runs forward then baloon a cross into orbit.

Brown, run every blade of grass, win the ball, lose the ball.

N'Guemo, chase every single pass like a headless chicken, sometimes intercepting, then play a stupid pass that often goes straight to opposition.

The list goes on and on but with McCourt i'd say his main problem is the defensive side of things. I really like players who try to cut inside and go in on goal, not enough of our team are seeming to want to do that.. and at the end of the day, football matches are won by converting shots into goals.

I don't know about 'one trick pony' but what I do know is that Paddy's run and shot last night was the most exciting moment of the match by a hundred miles. I'd be happy to see him take Aiden's place in the team for a few weeks so we can properly evaluate what he can do for us.

He did fairly well when he came on last night and was unlucky not to score, but I still think his fitness could be better.

He's more effective charging down from the middle of the pitch with the ball than trying to cut in from the wing like McGeady. He is a very useful player to have no doubt and i believe he warrants a starting place of Maloney who is off form at the moment.

It was defiantly one of the most hardest shot and accurate shot iv seen from a celtic player for awhile.

The last time i saw a shot hit with that ferocity and velocity, (what a pair of words!) it was Drogba haha

a one trick pony, better to be a pony than a donkey like most of them at the moment

i think mccourt offers a lot more than "his one trick" he gets the crowd going when he comes on ,that inspires the players"well should do" he looks comfortable on the ball and when in the mood he looks fantastic, he seems to glide past players with ease,if only he could do it more or even play more

I see what you mean CB, defenders are starting to easily predict what he's going to do but if he varies what he does and passes more he could be a better player than he is just now :50:

I disagree. I'd rather watch him skill some players and eventually fail rather than him pass and then eventually fail. At the end of the day he makes the game nicer to watch.

I've thought of a way to describe McCourt in a better way now!

His key skill is his dribbling ability, obviously followed by the fact he likes scoring goals.

His dribbling technique alone is enough for him to glide past half a team on several ocassions, making it look effortless and that goes for Tottenham players.

He then finishes off the simple looking dribble with a neat finish which he's done twice for Celtic and i don't exactly know how many for Derry City but i'm sure it was a few.

    --

Aiden McGeady - Tries countless trick, flicks and i have to say they rarely come off. When they do and he goes forward he then stops and holds up play, if he decides to take a shot, besides the Aberdeen game at the start of the season, they go flying off towards the moon.

    --

I'd wager that if McCourt could get his fitness up to have an extended run in the team he'd offer alot more and do alot more than McGeady will.

he's too gready right now, trying to repeat those two good goals he scored. once he settles down.. i.e. gets a *' run in the team! he might come good.
why mowbray bush dosn't play Samaras and Maloney upfront with aiden n mccourt on the wings I don't know..

if his one trick is beating four men and scoring once a game, that's a * of a trick I'd like to see weekly
