Stephen McManus - Conduct Unbecoming

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Markybhoy, Oct 29, 2009.

  1. Turn it up the lot of you!! I cant believe that all this is getting spoke about!

Was it a bad tackle, yes. Does it happen in teh game nearly every week, yes. Do they normally get dent off for it, no! These tackles happen all the time when the defender is just trying to stop the guy getting past him. Think of all the tackles around the halfway line when the midfielder is going to burst through the defence and tehy get pulled down.

The tackle was not an attempt to win the ball. I have read someone say that they are disappointed that he wasnt in a better position to stop the ball. Driver was running at full pelt. Driver and everyone else in the ground knows that all he had to do was put the ball past Mick and he was getting brought down. It was actually Danny Fox's man and he was no where to be found.

These sort of tackles are what a CH should be making. If it had been Big Bobo he would get cheered off the park with everyone singing 'Bobos gonnae get ye'.
It was not a challenge that was going to cause serious harm. He kicked his leg. Big deal. He didnt go in with studs showing or go for the knee. It was just a swipe. Tell you what, have a look at the games at the weekend and see how many tackles like that happen!

As for the captain talk I have seen Hinkel and Boruc mentioned. Hinkel is so meek in the tackle it is untrue. He would be even less than inspiring than Mick is currently. Boruc is a clown. Our clown, but a clown none the less. He really has been involved in * that is unbecoming of a captain if you want to get down to it.

Mick didnt do anything wrong alst night bar the tackle. The goal was not his fault. He was covering for his absent LB when he got sent off. Dont see why he is getting teh stick when Danny Fox was at fault for the penalty and woefully out of position at the time of Mick's Red Card.

mcmanus fouled ,kicked,or brought him down, because hes too slow ,hes out of position, hes out of form, and hopefully out the team.

mcmanus was shown up for what he is, and that is a donkey

against rangers he was caught out when he tried to jump on loovens both missed the ball and rangers scored ,he did the excact same on sunday v hamilton when they nearly got a equalliser ,he tried to jump on robson i think it was ,both missed the ball,

hes absolutley * at the moment and costing us dearly

Lets hope its the last time he wears the hoops. That wasnt a mis timed tackle. It was an assault. He may as well have rugby tackled him.

Captains have to be leaders. That wasnt the action of either a leader or a sportsman.

McManus is captain Clusterf*ck and how he ever, EVER managed to get need the reserves never mind the first team is beyond me. He should be dropped, stripped of captaincy, fined and then have his contract terminated the fud. The sooner we get to January the better as far as im concerned.

I appreciate that he was over where Fox should've been. Fox had, by far, his worst game in the Hoops, and was clearly not yet ready to be brought back, however McManus has been a liability for far too long. As for comparing with Bobo in his prime... well, suffice to say, I know which one of the two I'd rather have.

Do you guys honestly call yourselves Celtic fans. It's time you woke up and actually supported the team instead of hounding them. Macmanus played well last night and took one for the team in committing a professional foul on a guy who was likely to make it 2nil and night over. He had no interest of causing harm to driver, otherwise he would have. That is a football tackle to help the team, you just don't see many of them any more.

So, how about actually showing some support to a team you actually love and give Mowbray and the lads time to adjust.

    Get a grip guys

With less than 2mins on the clock to go he goes and does that ,McManus wasnt close to the ball or the player and had to lunge himself to get the player ,we see tackles every week made that we say that was bad but that was OTT and he dersrves everything that comes his way.

I think were all turning into puffs

  12. I think you being a little harsh on Fox ok not his best game thus far but he was upfield supporting an attack when it broke down! But one of the jobs the backline has is to fill gaps left by overlapping fullback as happened last night, once again McManus's reading of situations is sadly lacking he was caught on the back foot AGAIN!! couldn't deal with the burst of pace shown by Driver in fact this season he can't deal with most things

Agreed yes it was bad , late and disgraceful .....If McCulloch had done it on a celtic player then we would want him banned for life , it was an assault and he had enough time to pull out !! ...

How anyone can even attempt to defend McManure for a career threatening tackle is beyond me and if that tackle (assault) had been on a celtic player i bet those same fickle fans would be calling for a life ban on the offending player.

So * if it was a bad tackle by Mick, the way he's getting slaughtered by the fans in this thread is shocking. Wasn't that last week when he was sweating blood for the cause, now he's to gtf because he put a wee hun up in the air. Not as if he caused their goal or missed the sitters on the night and actually played alright. I think he's just being used as a scapegoat by most.

Every time Hearts went forward they looked like scoring. He didnt play well, he played the way he always plays, *. He is never a Celtic captain and should never have been a regular player ffs.

Being a pal, or a good tim is not enough. He needs to GTF with Caldwell and half a dozen other imposters.

  18. I don't know why anybody is even surprised anymore by Captain Calamity
who is also one half of our Chuckle Brothers who make up our centre backs.
The blame should lie with the gutless Mowbray who hasn't got the balls to drop the Chuckle Brothers, and instead has dropped our best centre back
Glenn Loovens, and also dropped Robson last night, the only player who has any fighting spirit and pride in the club. McManus should be disciplined and transfer listed as the guy is just not Celtic class.

Ive never rated McManus Gordy and he did play a better game last night but that tackle was to cynical and blatant and he should be hammered for it ,you dont like saying that about your own and i said it about the McGeady dive a while back that he cheated that day ,its not really how you kick someone that does the damage its normally on the fall or in what way they fall that the injury kicks in ,Driver got up from that last night on another day he could have fell awkwardly and twisted or snapped something ,but Mick was well out of order on that one .

Its all about pace. McManus really has one killer flaw and it is pace. Otheriwise I think he is a good player. You get players who are not pacey like Hinkel and Heid and then you get players who are absolutely slow motion like Mick. He has regularly been scything people down when they get past him and I have been surprised he has never broken someones leg. Weirdly I think he does better in CL and Scotland games because in those he plays really deep. O'Dea is exactly the same so do not think he is the answer. He did deserve to be sent off and so did at least one Hearts tackle deserve that treatment. However, all this witch hunt about conduct is OTT. He is a gentleman compared to some of out big headed players. Anyway, yes we need some pace at CB. Short term, Loovens is not sprinter but he is much faster than Mick. However, if we want to play Mowbrays high line tactics we need to sign a pacey CB. Are there any realistic candidates inb our usual 2 or 3 million bracket?
