Why is it Dermot Desmonds responsibility to finance the purchase of players, it is the boards responsibility to ensure the club is properly run in a self sufficient manner.

Have you read any of the interviews with DD to see what his thoughts on the club are?

Do you know how much DD has invested over the years and what sort of position we would be in without him?

The strikers were well capable of scoring in the SPL, they under performed. Player & Management to blame. £3M on Steven Fletcher wasnt going to fix our problems, he doesnt get many goals. Waste of money but the excuses would have reverted back to blaming management and players for not performing to acceptable levels.

What does it matter what he is worth?? He's not obligated to spend all his personal fortune on Celtic. He's an investor in a PLC, when you invest in something you expect it to be able to be self sufficient and not need external investment on a regular basis to operate.

The business has its own cash reserves, how they are spent is the responsibility of Peter Lawwell, not Desmond.

if you go back and read the opening post the rumour says dermot would bankroll the signing of keane which i think is pie in the sky but none the less think would go a long way to us getting our title back (even on loan)my point earlier was had we done something likewise last year how better off would we be financially.all this bullshit the boards resposibility and self sufficent is fair enough if the debt was 30m but as i also said earlier push the boat out just a wee bit to stay ahead of the huns who spent over 20m on the team at the start of last season while 30m in debt now that debt has been halved due to us being prudent and self sufficient. the last interview i seen with dermot was on the pitch at tannadice when he told us it would be 4 5 6 in a row not heard anything since altho dempsey seems to get a quote or two dont honestly know how much he has invested in the last few years do you? and what sort of position do you think we would be in without him?:shamrock:

DD will not be financing any possible Robbie Keane deal, just like he DIDN'T finance the Roy Keane deal unlike the papers would have you believe.

Investment in January may have won us the league, it may not have (we could have paid a few million for a striker that breaks his leg in his first game) we should have invested but even without that investment the players and management were good enough to win the league, they failed. However the lack of investment is the board, Peter Lawwell's fault not DD's.

We are not £30 million in debt because of the way the club is ran. I seriously doubt rangers have halved their debt (they're not a PLC so their accounts aren't available)

Do a quick google search and you'll see some interesting interviews with DD, this quote that Dempsey used earlier states exactly what he thinks of his investment in Celtic:

DD has invested just under £90million, not exactly a small amount of money.

Without his investment Celtic would not have been able to win trophies, get the finances sorted and invest in Lennoxtown, together with the additional money they give to charities and the various community programmes the club runs. There wasn't exactly a long queue of millionaires waiting in the wings to invest when DD did.

respect your opinion danni and also dempseys but just hate to see us going further and further back the way on the park which is my main concern especially the state rangers are in when the biggest income available to us is to finish above them and get cl money hail hail

Mate all of us want to see Celtic be the best they possibly can be on the park as that's where it matters, no point having good finances and not winning anything.

We are going backwards because the money is just not available in the SPL to afford players of the caliber of Henrik, Sutton, Hartson etc.

Throwing money at Celtic isn't going to solve the problem as it's more deep routed than that it would only be a short term solution when we need a long term solution.

Yeah have heard the rumour too. Apparently it's "99.9%" certain to go thru according to an article on another Celts website. Desmond shelling out 30 big ones and the club matching it to give Keane his 60g a week salary. Anyway we shall see. Keep the faith!!!:celt_2:

Love to see this happen but I'm not buying it until I see that man in the hoops.

Keane or not, Celtic has got to bring in somebody in January to get this team back on track and the fans excited. Its all very ho-hum right now.

I still don't believe it, although the lads mentioning sources are not the guys who ever get involved in rumours.

Robinho, Keane, Ireland, Bellamy, Duff, Micah Richards and Rio Ferdinand all coming over in January. I won the lottery and am going to buy the team and bankroll 100 million for transfers.

as i said earlier, i know a good crowd of people who drink with his folkes, his pops says him and harry dont get on, personality clash buzz goin on, he will most likely be leaving, if not in january in the summer. martin o'neill is supposidly interested his dad says, and he also says robbie would like to play for martin o'neill, also obviously he'd love to sign for celtic, all he has medel wise is a carling cup medel, so he'll prob have to choose whether its gonna be 10k or so less a week which is really like us takin a wage decrease of 30- 40 pound a week, and some silverwear, or as u were robbie, scorin crackers regularly for a nothing club.

Unlike McGeady, he has end product that a striker can use

Don't disagree in any way about McGeady but Duff is nothing more than an average player now, whom I believe is on the treatment table on a fairly regular basis.

Debatable, as you have to remember Aidans only 23, whereas Duff is now 30 hence he should have a better end product, people always spoke about Duffs end product at the start of his career also. Aidan also has a better scoring record than Duff in terms of the early parts of their careers.

    Duff:
    1996-2003 Blackburn Rovers 185 (27goals)

    McGeady:
    2004 - Celtic 155 (27goals)
