first things first booked hamburg when draw was made for obvious reasons most celtic fans did. reckon there will be about 6-7 000 celtic fans there.as for vienna when draw was made thought we would have qualified before the last game silly me now my thinking is we may be out by the last game.if celtic claw there way back into the group you will see a large travelling support in vienna have no doubts about that me included:celt_2:

I agree! HSV never knew what hit them... I used to live in Leverkusen and I traveled with Bayer to various stadiums (Bochum, Cologne, Dortmund, etc.) - I don't think they are really used to that kind of atmosphere outside of maybe the derbies with Bremen. Just the way their keeper (Frank Rost) was received by the Block West crowd... herrlich! :icon_mrgreen: And then "Schwuler Schwuler HSV" on the way into the dressing rooms at halftime. And our guys were supercharged by the atmosphere. I think it was a combination of both, but Hamburg were definitely caught flat-footed by the reception we gave them.

@dannymac: if all it takes is two lean years to kill off the atmosphere like that, it sounds like you have systemic trouble.

You've "only" got like 2,500 - 3,000 seats in Vienna, so if you wait that long to find out you might be out of luck. I sure wouldn't want to travel all that way and have to hope I run into a scalper to get tickets.

EDIT: Yeah, they were sold as a package for all three games. And at the Hamburg game at least it was 47,000 solidly behind Rapid, so I doubt there will be too many willing to sell them off to Celtic fans without tickets.

Yes, all home tickets are sold out. They were sold in triple, together with HSV and Hapoel tickets. But there is an allotment for visiting supporters, so that's a good chance...

its not 2 years my friend celtic had they re strongest team for 30 years in 2003 which reached a uefa final and had 53 000 season book holders with thousands on a waiting list.the downgrading started shortly after and has continued till this day altho lesser teams since then have twice reached the last 16 of the champions lge in my opinion that had a helluva lot to do with our home support as we picked up 9 pts at home on both occasions and 0 pts away.we still have roughly 45 000 season book holders envy of most teams in europe also our attendance against you guys on thursday was the highest crowd of the night in all europa lge ties by 13 000 with hamburg closest with 30 000 my point is we have had a diet of champs lge football no disrespect to europa lge but only 1 show in town(champs lge) think that definitely affected the atmosphere altho away support fantastic:celt_2:

I can understand that - I think there is no question that Rapid's current success is making everyone a bit euphoric and really charging up the atmosphere, and I'm sure inversely if Rapid had to play in a group of consisting of obscure teams from Albania or Malta or whatever, the atmosphere would suffer. I suppose what I'm getting at is the difference between the "British" atmosphere in general and the European "ultra" atmosphere. Seems like the British atmosphere is more... organic I guess I would say. It depends on the opponent and how the game is going for your side. Whereas at Rapid it is much more orchestrated - with the result that there is always something going on, and even if the team goes behind there is organized support behind them to motivate them. I personally prefer that kind of support because it doesn't really depend on how the team is playing in general or what the score is at any given moment. And even if you lose you'll probably have had fun singing and supporting the team.

Well then if you end up in Vienna without a ticket and you don't get into the game, drop me a line and I'll let you know the best pubs to watch it at!

Have to disagree a bit with some of what you say. Remember we played sides from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:country-region w:st="on">Albania</st1:country-region> and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Cyprus</st1:country-region></st1:place> earlier on and the atmosphere was not bad at all. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
True, our support is much orchestrated and there is always something going on – almost independent from the score line. There are even one or two conductors or “ring leaders”, equipped with microphones and loudspeakers who are constantly cheering and conducting fans. <o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
Nevertheless most football fans in <st1:country-region w:st="on">Austria</st1:country-region> admire the atmosphere in British stadiums, known either from personal visits to the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">UK</st1:country-region></st1:place> or just from TV. It is my impression that Celtic supporters are among the best.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
As for <st1:country-region w:st="on">England</st1:country-region>, well it’s perhaps the northern English supporters who are the loudest, or at least seem to be the most enthusiastic: <st1:City w:st="on">Newcastle</st1:City>, <st1:place w:st="on">Sunderland</st1:place>, Manchester Utd? <o:p></o:p>

Have to agree about the atmosphere its pathetic , The home support is normally outsung by the away support , Bring back the terraces but that will never happen .
