Gunt you were always one of the posters telling people not to jump on WGS back after a disappointing result yet you're doing the exact same to TM with this thread.

Apart from having Loovens in the starting line-up I thought his team selection was spot on at the start, we have a poor defense, we have done for years give him a chance to sort it out.

If he had played a more defensive style you would have threads saying why not go all out attack against Vienna, it's a no win situation for him just now.

You're right there e.g. We tried to play football against Arsenal and got gubbed, as player for player we don't have the quality - even against teams like Vienna.

Although I thought McGeady and Maloney (despite a lack of composure) didn't look too far out of place and could perhaps carry these tactics (or lack there of) effectively against side of that level. But we are lacking in so many other areas.

Defensively we were shocking. Caldwell being a clumsy, wreckless * again.

But you have a point there, Mogga doesn't seem to have any team specific game plan when it comes to playing in Europe.

Bullcrap! we have the players to be beating the likes of these Austrians and Israelites coming from smaller less prosperous leagues than our own.

A huge, glaring, elephant in the room is that we don't pose a threat between the 18 yard line and 25-30 yards out. I can forgive N'Guemo because he's the destructive Makelele type, but our "main man" Scott Brown is incapable of shooting from simply anywhere.

Look across the good sides in Europe and you'll find at least one of their centre-midfielders can hit the target from that golden area. Even the huns have Mendes and Davis who can strike the ball. It's a major hole in the gameplan to lack firepower in that area, and when Scott Brown can't string a simple pass together, never mind something ambitious and creative, then we have problems.

CP was a fortress under MO'N and GS, but Mogga's threw that away! Even if it was a bad day at CP with MO'N and GS at least we'd get a draw! I don't think it'll ever get back to those days if Mogga's in charge. He's just focusing on making 'his team' which he says will take time. We've not got 2 years! He better pull his finger out his * and get something done. All give to him that he's he's done good in the league but in Europe he has no sense! He better get something done.

I thought we done alright tonight. We played mcmanus cost us a goal, Wilson played his first game for ages Brown still carrying an injury along with Mcgeady who clearly wasnt on top form. But overall we were the better team against a team that humped hamburg. Mowbray is still having to play with what he has and I think we are going in the right direction once he signs another few players. Incidently Nguemo, Fox and Maloney played really well tonight.

On my way back from the game and I thought mcgeady and brown were extremely poor tonight. It baffles me how our best defender so far this season can be dropped. I don't understand why Caddis didn't play instead of wilson who hasn't kicked a ball in recent memory. I don't understand why TM left it until the last ten minutes to make changes when it was clear at 60 mins that changes were required. We were the better side tonight but not by much, we lack any cutting edge and as in every other European game this season seemed to run out of ideas after an hour or so. Not impressed and it will now take an away victory for us to qualify, which have been difficult to come by over the years.

I you imagine yourself being a RV fan at the game tonight I would have been * myself by the way Celtic were playing. As soon as we start finishing off chances (which we will) I think we really could start to bring fear back into other teams when we play them. We played really well and controlled the whole match and then took off Maloney and McGeady with 10 - 15 mins to go because they were tired and have another big game on Sunday. Every player (even Mcmanus) tryed there best tonight but the finish isn't their yet.

    Agreed.

I just removed something like that from my last post before hitting submit for some reason.

But, to think the SPL outwith the old firm is any better than these leagues is deluded.

I simply don't think we have the players to play TM's passing game. Scott brown can't pass a ball 10 yards, our two centre halves hoof the ball back to the opposition at every opportunity and our strikers second touches are tackles.

If it wasn't for an individual abbheration by McManus we would have won that game tonight.

Do you want to explain to me how that is Tony Mowbray's fault?? :87:

What did brown or mcgeady do that was "excellent" tonight? Brown ran around like a headless chicken and Aiden did * all, he didn't get one cross in or one shot on target, so again, how is it they were excellent?

GS had a full season of working with the players at Celtic before having to face European competition due to his first European game being a bit of a disaster, TM has had a few months.

    * * Keltoi, you used to be the voice of reason - what's happening to the world these days?

We really should have had 6 points from 2 games & have only 1. A bummer of galactic proportions, but I really feel that we should have taken the 6 points - surely that mean Mowbray came close in his selections.

Ok close is not good enough, but I think he'll come good - he's still learning. Remember WGS's 1st season in Europe? Yep, *.

As far as I know Mowbray is Manager of Celtic and not a Striker for Celtic?

Tonight we played RV off the park and were unlucky not to have of got 4 - 5 goals never mind a draw.

I wouldn't blame the defenders to be honest. The wingers are tightly marked and our central midfielders are 2 bludgeoning hackers and not much more. Fair enough every team needs one in the middle but you also need someone to start some moves, like the Hartley Robson combo that served us so well previously...
