Keane is a far better player than Skippy

He's not a Celtic fan, he's supported Liverpool all his life (probably with his Scottish team being Celtic as that what a lot of Irish people who support an English team says)

I can't see this happening because of the wages he'd be on.

Basically the two of them play a similar type of football. Mcdonald can score 30 goals a season which he has already proven he can do. Keane doesn't look like he would score anywhere near 25-30 goals for us. If its a 25 - 30 goals a season striker we want i don't think keane is the one in my opinion.

Good for him, but people automatically consider him as a Celtic fan just because he's Irish. And I know that L'pool has maybe more fans than Celtic in Ireland.

Agreed, he'd be paid like two Bobos and that's just what we don't need. We need to balance our wage budget, not having one player who earns same amount like 2 or 3 players. And I think he'll maybe have one more or two more good season and he'll maybe move here, which I don't approve. Don't want another Roy Keane and I think we can earn those famous 7m from Broony's transfer and get ourselves great striker, lower earner and better prospect.

You have to remember Scott Mcdonald is capable of goals v Rangers, Milan, Man utd- like the one at xmas derby , the one that lobbed foster and more. He is a great player imo. Keane would just bring so much more because of his stature. But tbh, i really couldn't compare them

Similar type of players but there's a huge difference in the level at which they have achieved.

McDonald managed 31 goals in a season for Celtic ONCE. Skippy is a 20 goal a season striker in the SPL.

Keane has a similar goal ratio but he achieved that in a vastly superior league. McDonald cant even score for Australia, they play the likes of Oman, Japan & Iraq most of the time. Keane scores against the likes of Italy, Germany & Holland. Big difference.

Keane would stand out like Bellamy did if not more

Keane would run amok up here you'd be looking at, 30-40 a season from him.

There could be more than a grain of truth to transfer rumours linking Robbie Keane to Celtic and if there is, the Ireland captain should grasp the opportunity to move to Celtic Park.Keane has started the season in decent form for both club and country, forming a good alliance with Jermain Defoe before scoring a vital winner in Ireland’s World Cup qualifier against Cyprus.

But when Harry Redknapp had a decision to make for Saturday’s biggest test against Manchester United, he chose to relocate Keane to the left side of midfield, where he deputised for the injured Luka Modric.

Peter Crouch and Defoe, the all-England duo, look likely to become Redknapp’s favoured tandem, with both desperate to impress in a pre-World Cup season.

So where does that leave Keane? Niko Kranjcar, the deadline day signing from Portsmouth, replaced him midway through the second half against United and is altogether more suited to the left midfield role.

Modric himself, so important to the Spurs cause, will be back in six weeks or so, meaning Keane is likely to be no more than an impact sub for a half hour here and 20 minutes there.

That is far from ideal for the Ireland skipper, particularly as he may well have a World Cup to prepare for himself.

If Ireland somehow negotiate the November play-off and Celtic’s interest becomes concrete in January, Keane should jump at the chance to move to Parkhead.

Granted, it would be a drop in class. He would be playing the Accies instead of the Arsenal. But at least he would be playing every week, so crucial for the wellbeing of a player who needs that permanency to reach and maintain his best form.

The rotation system of Rafa Benitez didn’t suit, nor will the likelihood of plenty of bench time for Spurs over the next few months.

At Celtic, he would be the number one number nine. Everything else would revolve around providing the service for him, something he would undoubtedly relish.

Now 29, Keane needs to be the top man, not understudy to two England subs.

Were he to move to Celtic, where an Ireland captain would be revered like virtually no place else, he would get the adulation he so desires.

The nay-sayers might hum and haw about the chasm in class between the Premier League and the SPL.

But that shouldn’t matter, not now, when he has played at the top level in England for a decade. Keane and Celtic might well be a marriage made in heaven.

This would be a great signing for celtic. They need a striker that is a good strike force if they got keane on board. Also I would say for celtic to drop fortune and sell him.

Celtic fan or not. An international class striker in his peak is not going to leave the EPL to play in our barely professional, backwater league.

Maybe he would consider it if he's not getting games in a world cup year, he is career driven, not money driven.

Why not? Are you going to use a wide sweeping stereotype when his career path points out that he rather be playing up front week in week out, especially in a World Cup year

I see no evidence to suggest he's "career driven". You might cite the Liverpool thing but at the end of the day he was getting games there, he just wasn't scoring, just wasn't working. It's not as if he cut his wages to go back to Spurs.

At the moment this is all fantasy, until he takes a MASSIVE drop in wages to guarantee being the first name on the Celtic team-sheet (which he undoubtedly would be) I see no reason to believe that he would come here. Would Ireland seriously drop him if he wasn't a regular starter? I know in the past with Scotland the likes of Fletcher and Gordon have gotten games despite not playing club football regularly.

If they were to drop Keane who is the alternative in a 4-4-2 (assuming Doyle is the other starter). Isn't it Folan who's played less games for Hull this season than Keane for Spurs who has started 5 out of 5 albeit 1 on the left for the Man United tie.

    So to summarise:
    1) No evidence to suggest a "career player"
    2) He has started every game for Spurs thus far, and even then arguably there is no pressing need to be starting, being Irelands by far most capped Forward.
    3) I'm dubious that he would take around a 50% salary cut with the above in mind
