I seem to think you dont pay tax on any money you pay into your pension,so if your on £100,000 a week and you pay 80k into pension and you strugle by on the other 20k then you get past the tax burden.
Must be hard retiring at 35.:97:

It's not just the tax that footballers aren't happy with it's the National Insurance as well.

I was originally trying to explain the booing at the end of the game which is what this thread was initially about.
Who pays their season ticket money just to help with the financial statements?
Sat through the last game of last season v hearts and hated every * minute of it. Team was pathetic, the wee huns were rubbing our noses in it, and could't help but think of the huns partying at tannadice- miserable.
At no point did I think "never mind, that last financial statement looked * amazing".
By the same token, don't imagine any of the huns were bouncing around at tannadice thinking "those lucky * at parkhead broke even this year".
People go to football to enjoy getting one over on their rivals, not to worry about the club's finances.

thats the thing mate as fans we are only really interested in a winning team that plays good entertaining football and competes also here and abroad! the financial side of it is the suits job not ours ? so when we pay our hard earned money to travel abroad and season books ,merchandise etc ! we have the right as a football fan and punter to boo if things arent going the way we would hope for.

but not all fans see it the same way of course and thats how we get fall outs within the support because at the end of the day we all want a succesful team on and of the park.

the point isn't that we are purely happy that the financial statements are in a good condition it's the fact that the club finances dictates what we can do on the pitch in terms of caliber of player we are able to bring in, that's why they are so important.

All of us want to see Celtic be the absolute best they can be on the pitch, as that is where it matters, but in order to understand what is the best we can be, we have to understand the limitations placed on us due to the financial landscape we are faced with.

I don't think yesterday was the best we can be, far from it, but I also understand the difficulties in attracting the type of players that will significantly improve us - a lot of those difficulties are financial, not just the transfer fee, but financing the wage demands/bonus scheme etc that such players would demand.

Whether we like it or not Celtic is a business, and has been for some time now, therefore to understand the situation with the team we have to take into consideration the financial statements as well, they go hand in hand.

We've invested in the team this season, maybe not as much as most fans wanted, but by the amount most fans I know expected.

At the end of the day football is still a game where "smaller" teams can pull off a shock result, although considering 3 of the 4 meetings last season against United were draws it was hardly a shock result.

We should have done better, the players probably know that without leaving the field to boos ringing in their ears.

We didn't even play that badly during the games, once again it was just the lack of that killer pass/shot in the final third that proved our undoing.

I wonder if anyone has taken notice of the fact that in the last two games which Marc Antoine Fortune'e hasn't played in, the midfielders haven't had as many opportunities to score and we haven't created as much.

Maybe he does actually do a job for the team and isn't the dumpling he is so often accused of being.

Good point, I think Fortuné is critical to the way TM wants us to play which is why I said his injury would be a blow to us

I honestly believe that it is more to do with Donati not being there than Fortune. Although always liable to play a ridiculous pass, I thought Donati started the season very well.

Which was the same problem we had last year made worse by the departure of Naka. The board have failed with getting a replacement or sorting out our shortcomings in the striking department which cost us the league last season.

There are lots of loopholes that the government are (for whatever reason) reluctant to close.
e.g. Company Directors and other individuals being paid £6475 in salary and then £150k in dividends, because the basic rate of tax on dividends is 10% not 20%, and the higher rate is 32.5% not 40%.

If they do get paid as an interest-free loan, then they would be taxed on that as a Benefit they receive from their employer.

Either way you're failing on both counts. :50:

Keep it on topic, and less of the clever remarks please.

    I laughed there.

You are right, I have been advised by my accountant to take £6500 per year in wages and the rest in a monthly dividend, where the corporation tax is lower. (the 10% isn't an exact figure btw, he is going to explain more about it, at our next meeting).
