The negativity of a lot of supports still surprises me - although I should be used to it by now as it seems as though some people are not happy unless they are complaining.

We have spent roughly what most people expected us to spend, between 6 and 8 million, we have got rid of some of the deadwood, we have addressed our lack of pace up front, we have gotten the new left back that we've been crying out for for years and we have a strong midfielder - albeit on loan just now.

Hopefully the deal for N'Guemo will be completed in a similar fashion to the Boruc deal who was also initially brought in on loan for 1 year, but that was made a permanent deal within 4 months.

We are still investing heavily in youth development - the only way forward for our club.

If we had reached the CL group stages then I would have wanted to see at least another one player brought in but the financial reality for Celtic means we have to spend within our means.

It's all well and fine for clubs in England to carry debt, look at the TV revenue they get compared to clubs in the SPL.

For those wanting Desmond to fund the buying of players from his own pocket - what would happen if he decided to leave or * forbid something happened to him and his family decided to withdraw the financial support he was giving? We have to be a fully self sustained club, playing in Scotland with the lack of TV revenue dictates that relying on a sugar daddy or debt is not feasible.

The fact that we have still spent the amount of money we have done this window, without knowing if we would have CL income is testament to how well the club is run financially.

For a lot of players we can't compete on the wages front so even if we agree a deal with a club for a player they may well chose the EPL or Championship over us as they can get more money in England, obviously not every player is like this but unfortunately a lot are.

Despite the hindrance of competing with English clubs for players signatures, the lack of TV revenue, the fact that Scotland isn't exactly an attractive league and not being guranteed CL football this season we still managed to strengthen our squad.

Of course we all wanted to see more players brought in, I'd have liked a new striker, creative midfielder and central defender if the money was available but it wasn't.

Even if we did get more players in that could lead to problems in itself as you don't know how they would gel as team, better to bring in a few players at a time, not a whole new team.

It will take time for Mowbray to build the squad he wants, it was inevitable that this year the squad would be pretty similar to last years, so the fans just have to be patient with the team.

PS sorry for the length of the reply but I had a lot to say :icon_mrgreen:

This thread is about the current transfer window. We've established we only bought 1 squad player in January which was widely regarded as a mistake. Now we have bought 3 bona fide first team players with another prospect on his way in January. Pretty * signifcant difference :87:

it feels like were going around in circles, mowbray will build a team over the next few years the way o neill did, the way strachan did and then they leave and the cycle starts again

we win a few league titles and the odd cup but never progress in champions league

    Just Can't Get Enough.
    I for one m happy.
So what if you he was a free transfer who some of you don't rate , we can all decide when he pulls on the hoops if he is good enough or not!
    6 players , Fox , N'Guemo , Fortune , Thompson , Zhi and Ki-Sung-Yong!
Good buisness especially Ki and N'Guemo who are both class acts!

Ermm... Maybe I'm missing something here, but under our last manager, Gordon Strachan, we DID progress in the Champions League.

In fact we progressed into the CL knockout phase for the first time in the club's history, and repeated the achievement the following year.

What sort of progress did you have in mind? Because if you're thinking last-8 and semis -
as an SPL club - you are living in a dreamworld.

I guess now is the time for all if the young/reserve players make their mark.
I thought we all knew this was the plan? Haven't we got the boss to get the best out of these fringe players?

We let Donati and VGoH go and brought in Fortune and NGuemo. Not much differance IMO.
So realy it was just Fox we have added to the squad.

We also lost Naka and a few players to loan deals as well we have to remember. So you could say the sqaud is lighter than it was at the end of last season.

I have a feeling though that our game is going to improve from last year and some of the fringe players, flood and McCourt will be able to come in a do a job for us.

I just hope crosas is not a forgotten man as I think he is capable of chipping in with a good performance if given a chance.

It is looking good so far , so no need to get down hearted yet. keep the told you so's till December at least.

We signed a left back and a player that drags the defence all over the place to let other in the celtic team get goals.
And the guy from china can play in defence......

progress as in progression overall, yay we get to play the group stages every year (apart from this year) and if we are lucky and get a * group we mite get through only to be knocked out by a team we missed first time round

maybe your expectations are lower than mine but being a celtic supporter is pretty frustrating considering we are supposed to be one of the biggest clubs in the world, we have a massive merchandising operation and yet we spend f all, im not looking to spend 200 million and look good on paper but how about 20 million or 25

if you dont settle for the * were dealt then your called a whinger..

You are so deluded. We will never be one of the most successful (if you mean that by 'biggest') by playing in Scotland. And we'll never spend 20m or anywhere near that amount. You have massive expectations, but they will never come true in this situation.

20 to 25 million is not a realistic figure - we simply can't afford to spend anywhere near that amount in a transfer window.

Take a look at the financial statements, they are widely available, and you'll see for yourself what we can and can't afford to spend.

Fans have to be realistic, we all want what's best for the team but we have to recognise that there is only so much we can do considering the financial restrictions we face.

You can't change a whole squad and still deliver steady performances. We got three new line-uppers, and have Ki Sung-yong coming for january. I'm pretty sure that Mogga and Lawwell agreed to safe further cash, and at take a few changes in every window.
I don't believe that sending O'Dea to Reading and let Donati go was a part of their plan, so Zheng Zhi signs because he's a freebie, he can cover these positions, and Mowbray have some knowledge about him.

I predict we gonna sign two players in january (including Ki), and about three players next summer.

I don't feel any worry about Lawwells workstyle. Actully, I think Peter Lawwell is one of the biggest Celtic heroes in newer time.
