He's had a very poor start to the season, while O'Dea couldn't have done much more over the past twelve months to earn himself a bit of a run in the side.

It would also send out a message to other players that if you're not your game, you're out of the side.

Aye he's hopeless at the moment. If we continue to play him, its sets a bad precedent and most players will immediately think "Strachan" all over again.

Think he dropped him last night when he didnt appear for the second half .i would persevere with him ,dropping him could work against him ,morale etc .

On the other hand dropping him could make him work that little bit harder and encourage him even more to eradicate the brainfarts and general slack player.

O'Dea deserves a run in the side considering how Caldwell has started the season.

I personally feel his mind isnt on the game as he was before ,for whatever reason he has lost his confidence but what im saying KK is ,if you take him out and a spell in the reserves it could back-fire on him and he could lose more confidence in the reserves ,but i wouldnt let this go on anymore than the next 3-4 games ,if he is still making mistakes and costing celtic goals etc ,then yes i would put him on the bench but not the reserves :50:

There is nothing wrong with putting him on the bench for a game. That's what happens when a player is in poor form. It's not the end of the world and I believe he'd realize that himself.

He's almost out of contract, no?

If we drop him now he could easily decide to leave for nothing, like Jackie Mac before him.

To let that happen would be very stupid.

I reckon it's the contract uncertainty that's unsettling him - best remedy is to get his paperwork sorted.

I would definatley drop Caldwell for O'dea. What does O'dea have to do to prove that he's fit to start for Celtic? He's quicker than Caldwell as well and a rest might do Caldwell some good. I'm sure that head of his is getting bigger.

i would defo drop him, on current form he does not deserve to be near the first team, and those who are saying dropping him could cause a lackin confidence, its not as if he can play any worse than he is just now.. he can just cut it in the spl, but in europe he gets found out, if we are ever going to improve in europe players like caldwell and mcdonald wont feature.spl players at their very best

No chance. I wouldnt drop Caldwell for 2 O'Deas. The defence always looks like a seive every time he plays. He is slow, easily beaten on his right, poor positional sense, not great in the air and just seems to lack that aura of dominance that Caldwell and Loovens have when they are on form. O'Dea is unbelievably overrated IMO. The defence looked 10 times worse when he replaced Caldwell cv Arsenal and thats not the first time I have noticed us going positionally all at sea when he plays.

Maybe getting dropped will re focus him more. He will have to fight for his place which he hasnt had to do in a while. doing something like that to a player can totally rejuvinate them.

If a player, any player, isn't doing his job in the team he has to be dropped.....simple as. Celtic football club shouldn't be in a position where we need to pander to any players loss of form. Bring in a replacement give the guy a spell in the reserves, if and when the player brought in has a bad spell or is injured bring the other player back in if he has improved his confidence and his game in the reserves. If his form doesn't pick up in the reserves show him the door. That's football.
