No way Arsenal are a bigger club than Celtic, financial clout - yes,
in terms of support, history, passion - not even close

"Arsenal are a far, far bigger club than Celtic. If you go to Brazil, or Argentina, or countries in Africa, or any country that doesnt have a history of significant Irish immigration, then the everyday football fan there will not have heard of Celtic, but they will defonatly know of Arsenal."

I totally disagree with you, Irish immagration helps with the interest in Celtic in the U.S, Canada and Oz, I've worked in quite a few places around the globe and i can tell you that my Celtic jersey gets recognised, even in Doha, Turkey, Ghana, Mauratania. I have aslo worked with alot of different nationalities who knew the club crest, Mexicans being the most excitable about it. Arsenal on the other hand have only recently used financial clout and world class players to get recocnised, Celtic has the history. Arsenal without they TV and sponsorship money would not even be close to us as a global brand.

Haha tbf that is The Lobby, it's where we keep the posters who aren't good enough for the proper forum (or the newbies until they prove themselves good enough for the real thing) :86:

I'm sure you'll find more reasonable posters in the main forum (me being one of course... :84:), unfortunately you can't contribute there because of the promotion system keeps you in The Lobby for a while, sorry, although as with any fan site even in the proper forum you get the odd idiot or two.

We are regularly the champions of our country.
    They are regularly not.

We have won the pinnacle of European football.
    They have not.

Our stadiums are equal in size but not equal on atmosphere.

    A gooner here,
i must admit, (as i probably would anyway) that i disagree. This topic got me interested, and so I had a look around on google, and after a few minutes i found this.

"A 2005 report by Granada Ventures, estimated Arsenal's global fanbase at 27 million, the third largest in the world."

now don't get me wrong by no means at all are arsenal the third largest club in the world, as i would have to say the likes of united, real madrid, barcelona, milan and liverpool are all bigger clubs than us, that puts that argument sort of to bed.

On to the trophies, and domestically we can not be compared. They are two different leagues, and would be like saying rangers are bigger than us because they have won more domestic trophies than us. That being said though you have got that european cup which at the emirates we so desperately desire.

One thing that i cannot in deny you is that the atmosphere up at your place for european matches in particular is amazing, and certainly one of if not the best that this arsenal team will ever face. If i'm honest the emirates is dead silent at times, and home fans are regularly outsong by the away fans. although it does get going a bit in the north london derby. (by the way for those of you going to the emirates one thing you will agree on is that the facilities there are second to none)

Anyways good luck for the season ahead, it should be a tight game in particular at your place, i'm just hoping that we don't fall apart on the big stage.

I would say no. They have way more money then us due to the league situations but that is just one aspect of things.

In fairness mate i would say they are aswell, I think theres only two english clubs that are bigger than the old firm. Arsenal are better and richer but not bigger. If the amount of money invested into the premiership was cut even by half yous would not be a top european side. if celtic were in the premiership since 1992 I honestly believe theyd be as big as manchester united.

You play in the best league in the world, that is what gives you a major edge over us but in stature I dont think you are.Just my opinion of course.

All the best for the coming season:50:

With all due respect but I can't understand your first point.

Yes you are reguler champions but most teams in the SPL aren't great, whereas in the EPL, we have to contend with the big four plus clubs like tot'sum, Villa, Man City etc..... who are better than most teams in SPL?

It's a tough question, i'd say historically Celtic have been the bigger club but they are now one of the best teams in Europe and we're not. They always reach the latter stages of the Champions League and finish near the top of their League.

I think if we were both in the same League Celtic would be the richer and better team(if they joined the SPL or we joined the English Premier League) but we're not in the same League.

We are the bigger club but they are the better team and in the future may surpass us as they play in the League which is shown round the world and we play in a League only people from our country watch so they will be gaining more and more fans and followers where as we're not but we have a larger number of "real fans" than them and will always have that.

I would say us and Ajax for example are bigger clubs than Arsenal but the level playing field of the past is gone and in the future Arsenal will be the bigger club, due to money and TV coverage.

Agree 100%, if the gulf keeps widening its only a matter of time before they surpass us but not quite yet.

No they play in a league where quite a few teams are going to feel the wrath of the credit crunch very shortly and dissapear from the EPL. The debts are getting out of control.

Your ajax point has sort of turned my head a bit, i would have to say now we're pretty similar in terms of club size as before the mid to late 90s you were without doubt a bigger club, but with the premier league, arsene wenger and the subsequent exposure from the premier league arsenal as a brand exploded it made an extremely well supported club all around the world so i put it like this.

    Players - Arsenal
    Money - Arsenal
    Brand - Arsenal
    number of fans - Arsenal
    atmosphere and passion - celtic
tradition and history - celtic just edge that one

but what evens it up is that the arsenal ones are all a result of the premier league.

So there we go my conclusion we're about the same. (for now)

The Arsenal team isn't that special. If they dont get playing the way they want they basically don't play like they did against Hull. We will win home and away. Gooner89 shut it :56:
