Should we get rid of him? Definitely not. Players go through bad patches from time to time and unfortunately its his turn.

Drop him!!! Are some people * mental. Fair play, they are intitled to there opinion but come on use some sence!:31: Do people forget how good he was for the hoops last season. 2 games into the league and bang he has to be stripped of the captaincy and dropped out right. Frightening!!!

Caldwell has really only made a few mistakes, then gets totally slated for it, and the og was barely a mistake he had to do something. Why do some people on here always need a scapegoat?? First its Fortune, he bags 2, Donati still gets its tight considering he is like a new signing and its now on to Caldwell because of an error. Watch out Mogga you might be next!!

Some of the opinions on here are * shocking in the extreme. I'd wager most of those who want shot of Caldwell are the same people who got their knickers in a twist calling for McManus to get dropped and stripped of the captaincy.

There is not one CB playing anywhere in the world today who doesn't make mistakes and who doesn't suffer from bad luck. If the Gallas deflection had sailed over the bar or the Caldwell interception had went out for a corner this thread wouldn't have seen the light of day.

He was our best CB over the last 2 seasons and rightly claimed POTY last year for his performances. He's been given the captaincy on merity and not for any other reason and to suggest that is an incredible slur both on the player and also the manager.

Caldwell isn't the most skilful CB this club has ever had but I'll say this. He never hides, he always gives 110% and he's respected by all the players. He'll get over this blip and come back stronger than ever.

i dont see why we have to boot him? but the fact remains hes playing * and some of the other lads have been patient and have got to wonder what has to happen for them to get a proper shot.

Gary Caldwell is scaring me. His first two seasons at Celtic I thought he was * awful. I couldn't stand the guy, thought he was a total liability. Then last season he was really good. He was, along with Scott Brown, our best player. I started to feel more confident about him and thought he had turned the corner. But so far this season he has reverted back to the old 'bombscare' Gary Caldwell. I'm not writing him off yet but I've seen this all before from him. I hope it's just a blip in form and he's going to get back to how he was last season again. If he carries on the way he's going just now though I'd happily just let the guy's contract run out and let him go. Stephen McManus gets dogs abuse on this site but I'll tell you what....Mick doesn't drop half as many serious clangers as 'Heid' does. Caldwell's fine in the SPL but he's been found out in the Champions League quite a few times now. In fact, Caldwell has played in 3 Champions League campaigns for Celtic and has 3 own goals to his name. 1 EVERY year! Scary player. Sort yourself oot Heid!

Heid was also excellent for much of his first season before he got injured (a 2 or 3 dodgy game patch aside) and got a lot of praise then. He then was essentially out of the team through injury etc for the best part of 10 months. When he came back he was messed around by being forced to played RB for ages which I think damaged fans opinions about him. As soon as he got back to CB for a few weeks he started to play well again. He actually was playing well for many weeks before fans grudgingly acknowledged it. He was excellent for the last 18 months until now.

Overall, when he has played at CH and been fit, Caldwell has played well for us about 80% of the time. He is a rare CB who also has a football brain and is a real leader. We would be crazy to drop him for a few dodgy games and in fact we should be making sure he gets a much imprpved contract ASAP.

Reiper was real quality but I have to say that Mjallby has some rose tinted aspects. He was a couple of years before he really looked a player and he was solid rather than amazing.

I feel that the main problem with Caldwell is that he is being judged unfairly by a large section of our support,he isnt a top defender, he is an above average defender and as such will always be liable to a few howlers over the course of a season.I wish people would stop thinking he's top drawer and judge him accordingly,he's the best we have at the present,so instead of giving him pelters lets get behind him, mistakes and all.

you know its brilliant this i have just seen the goals from yesterday and the one he " cost us " was a brilliant finish i mean not as if it was a sitter and as for the own goal the other night ffs that can happen to anyone we didnt crucify big artur for not saving it because that would hardly be fair . Get of the players backs everyones entitled to their opinion but some on here have only negative things to say about our club and then some of them will be the same people * about how the media have it in for us .

    Blasphemy!!! :icon_mrgreen:

I love how Scotland NT keeps coming back into this too. Celtic isn't the Scottish NT.

The thing with the OG was that it was a great low cross that they were probably going to get on the end of anyway. If he didn't go for it, the same people would be moaning about how he just stood there and let it go by.

Caldwell is a much improved player from when he first came, but I don't think he is as good as he and others think he is.

True though. Mjallby was firstly a poor CM then he looked a dodgy CB. He only really flourished in MON's back 3 where the chemistry worked with Balde and Valgaern, possible because the other two were pacey. He never looked like he could play in a back 4 IMO. Slow too. That Danish winger Rangers had took him to the cleaners for pace and that led to switching to a back 4 and his disappearance. IMO he is bit of a cult figure like Balde and that means only the good stuff is remembered. Reiper however was world class IMO. The partnership he had with Stubbs was the best I can remember in the last 20 years.

I agree with that. But the fact does seem to remain that these 'unfortunate' incidents more often than not seem to happen to Caldwell. He's either incredibly unlucky or he's a liablilty a fair amount of the time on the big stage. Which one it is I'll leave others to make their own mind up.

Caldwell is a liabilty mate period :87:
That is four vital goals he has cost us this season alone. We can't afford
    these slip ups any more.
O'Dea deserves his chance now and Caldwell should be binned for the sake of the team and himself
