PAC MAN TO TAKE ON COTTO!

Discussion in 'Other Sports' started by mickcfc91, Jul 21, 2009.

  1. Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao will fight Miguel Cotto.
The Filipino phenomenon, the Ring Magazine's light-welterweight champion will take on the WBO welterweight boss in Las Vegas on November 14, according to promoter Bob Arum.
The fight will take place at a catchweight145lbs after a Pacquiao, whose last fight was the two-round destruction of Ricky Hatton at 140lbs, agreed to Cotto's demands.
Arum's Top Rank controls both fighters and negotiations were said to be easy once Pac Man had indicated he wanted to take on the Puerto Rican.
"With Manny, you don't tell him who to fight," Arum said.
"He tells you who he wants to fight. He's not afraid of anything. There are a lot of easier guys he could fight, but he doesn't want that. He wants the best, and that's Miguel.
    Unbelievable

"There's no messing about with either of these guys, and that's what's so exciting.
"That's why it's an unbelievable fight, with two guys who really love to fight and don't dance around."
The fight was first mooted for Madison Square Garden, New York, where Cotto regularly performs in front of full houses, but will now take place at the MGM Grand Garden.
It will be only the second time Cotto has fought in the fight capital in five years, his last outing there being his 11th-round defeat at the hands of Antonio Margarito last July - after which the winner was suspended for illegal handwraps.
For Pacquiao it will be his sixth straight appearance in Vegas, where he has beaten Marco Antonio Barrera, Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz, Oscar de la Hoya and Hatton to shoot to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings

  2. This could be such an amazing fight.

  3. Great to see this one being made.

    My most-eagerly-anticipated would be Pacman/Mayweather - but Floyd's such a shitebag I can't see it happening.

  4. this is gonna be a great fight :50: a week before my bday in vegas count me in. pac man fight weekends in vegas is a great atmosphere

  5. Really looking forward to this. Presuming Cotto can make 145 without draining himself too much, this should be an extremely difficult fight for Pacquiao - it's definitely his biggest test since Marquez.

Cotto only usually struggles when guys push him back and really pressure him and Pac isn't that type of fighter. Also, Pacquiao hasn't really had to take a good shot above super-featherweight - Cotto is going to hit him harder than he's ever been hit before. I doubt Pac can stand up to 12 rounds of Miguel's body-punching - I think he has to win by stoppage.

Pac's got the fastest hands in the sport though which will trouble any fighter 147-and-under.

Not sure who I'm picking yet - a 50/50 fight in my opinion.

  6. Does anyone think that Manny hits anywhere near as hard as Margarito?

  7. if he has plaster on then yea

  8. Precisely. :icon_mrgreen:

This could be a great fight.

We're really going to see how good Cotto is now...

people are still saying PBF is the P4P king but if manny win this one i think he would secures the title of the P4P king even if mayweather beats marquez

  9. Its too close to call, i think Marquez beat Pacquiao and if Marquez was given the decision that would really have put a whole new look on things. I personally have Manny no1 but find it hard to disagree with people who have floyd at the top still.

  10. imo floyd would be p4p champ if he fights the best at his own weight division he is a welterweight and he hasnt fought any of the top five at that weight and when asked why does he not fight mosley who people think is the best welterweight he always says is that the same fighter with 5 defeats, PBF is the one who fought carlos baldomir three fights ago and he had 9 defeats at the time.
