He's a good big pro that would run through a brick wall for the team.

His decision making is sometimes suspect but i would definately keep him in the squad. I don't think he is captain material though, apart from not being vocal enough your captain should be a stick on starter for every game and there is a case for starting the season with a different defensive partnership

He's not great, but he's good enough for our CB for starting eleven. He's not the best with tackling and his passing is awful. However, he's the one of our rare players who always gives 100% and leaves heart on the pitch, along with Brown. He also has good ability in the air. I can see him in Mowbray's plans next season and I think he'll have to compete with Loovens for the place in first eleven.

Nothing against Mick as a person as his heart and soul breathe Celtic for which i have a lot of respect for, it's his ability and talent i don't rate.

He is the worst passer of the ball i've seen in a professional footballer, his postioning is terrible(doesn't help that he's let down by naylor most of the time) and for somebody thats a CB @ 6'2 to rarely win a header is also very poor. His leadership on the park at times is questionable also.

It Would have been brilliant if he had a strong center half(mjallby springs to mind) playing beside a few years ago whilst he 1st broke into the team to mentor him.

Didn't help that he was struggling with injuries the last few months as well. Hopefully he gets back to full fitness soon knuckles down and challenges for 1st choice CB's which imo should be Heid and Loovens.

Hopefully Mick and a few others get a new lease of life under the new management.

    Cheers

Great person, heart of gold, but football wise he is not good enough, nothing personal, just think he is avarage.

as for the bit in bold i understand its just an opinion, but i cant see how someone can be so blind, hes so strong in the air!

as for the "loovens" chat, i cannot believe that mcmanus is called average and loovens is preferred, loovens is awful, hes the worst center half we have had in a while, ramon vega was better

he has his good days and his bad days but he can often be very clumsy, have rotten didtribution and make poor judgements in the air but i cant question his comitiment, he would take a bullet for the team. if we could get him back to the form of a few seasons ago i would have him in the team unless we sign anyone better.

6'2 but when he jumps he's 5'11. Daniel cousin bullied him everytime a ball came in the box.

Loovens was one of our best performers in the run. He's a good passer of the ball, decent turn of pace, composed. All things Mick sadly lacks.

Like u said its all about opinions but the fact u even tried to compare vega to loovens is laughable!

Totally honest here ,i wouldnt play mick in the reserves ,aye he a celtic man ,he plays with a big heart etc ,but you need talent and he lacks that big-time ,found wanting to much aswell ,theres better than him about ,and why he ever got the armband is beyond me .

i dont wanna argue with you mate, but to behonest loovens is just gash, the amount of times mcmanus has saved celtic and scotland with last ditch tackles, shot blocks, winning deep headers, loovens was out of place in the champions league, and is only ok in the spl cause the spl is pish

We'll just have to agree to disagree. you don't rate glen and i don't rate Mick hopefully Everbody starts afresh with new impetus and fight to win the league back off those inbred knuckle-draggers.

McManus would run through a brick wall for the team, unfortunately he doesn't have the same amount of skill as he does heart, when he was given the armband there really wasn't any alternative but now that a new man is in charge he won't be guaranteed his place in the team.

I like him, he's just not a good enough player.

To be fair, I think there's very few people on here who don't like Mick.

I like him, and I think he's a good captain too - but I don't think he's a good enough central defender to be automatic first choice for Celtic. That's why I don't think he should have the armband.

Having said that, he is someone who is always trying to develop his game, and some centre-backs do blossom in their mid-late 20s.

In short, I'd like to see us keep him, but I think Caldwell should be the captain. Mick should have to fight for his place in the team like most of our other players - and if he is successful then he richly deserves that place.

The only reason he's always making last-ditch tackles is because he lacks the skill and match-reading abilities of a top defender. The best defenders stroll through games as their positioning and reading of the game means situations where last-ditch interventions are required rarely arise.

I would agree with that, most top defenders read the game so well and their positioning is so good that they dont need to make the last ditch tackles.

Everyone knows McManus is celtic to the core, and that is a great asset of his as he gives his all and will always. But the truth is that his talent doesnt match his commitment, desire and determination. Unfortunalely that is why I dont believe he should be celtic captain, its not that I dislike him because he is a genuine and honest bloke and bleeds green and I love to see that in our players, but the bottom line is he just isnt good enough talent wise.

He's just not captain material, doesn't command respect from rest of the squad. I'd play Loovens first

I don't mind the big guy, however I wish he wasn't our captain.

He's also way too rash in the tackle. He broke someone's leg not that long ago.

    Heid > Loovens > Mick=O'Dea
