I just done some looking and Celtics merchandising brings in about a quarter of that of the big EPL clubs. So no its not just the TV money. If Celtic were a bigger club they club attract bigger players its that simple. Do you think a move to the EPL would mutiply Celtics fan base 4, 5, 6 x? I dont and thats what it would need to do to equal the big EPL clubs.

Celtic already has a huge fan base, if you are measuring the size of the club on fan base then Celtic are up there.

If Celtic were in a more competitive league then they would be able to attract better players it really is that simple.

Clearly that is not true otherwise the merchandising revenue would be up there with the bigger clubs, which it is not. More fans equal more people buying your shirts, mugs etc...

This is also interesting Celtic to launch credit card for US fans - Scotland on Sunday "Recent research by Capita Consulting in conjunction with Cranfield Institute revealed that the club had a worldwide fan base of nine million, of which one million were in the US and Canada."

Way, way less than estimations for top European clubs.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man U etc have a bigger worldwide fan base than us no-one is denying that but do you not think a lot of that is down to the league we play in compared to them - we don't get the worldwide TV exposure that clubs in the bigger leagues get yet we still manage to have a much bigger fan base then many of the teams in those leagues with the exposure.

Of course we can't compete with those bigger teams when we don't have the same exposure as them.

Someone said if Celtic entered the EPL they would become a European powerhouse, as if overnight. What you are saying is true, the fan base would grow but there is no reason why if Celtic entered the EPL would grow bigger than Man Utd's, Liverpools and Arsenals. If Celtic entered the EPL, imo would not even break the top 4. In order for the fan base to grow at such a massive rate to compete with the European elite Celtic would need to be winning the EPL consistantly.

Look at Chelsea there fan base has grown massively abroad, their merchandising sales are up there with the best of them, but the investment they have made to achieve this is massive. In fact they make a loss of something like £100m every year. It would not be a case of Celtic are in the EPL oh look our fan base just doubled.

Firstly I think we are a bigger club than the likes of Arsenal already.

Nothing happens overnight, it would take time of course it would but within a few years I think we would be challenging but that would also mean a change of direction for the club as they would then go in to debt knowing the money was coming in to finance that debt.

It's all hypothetical as I can't see us joining the EPL however for you to say we don't have a huge fan base is incredible, we clearly do have a huge fan base it may not be as big as the top European clubs but it's certainly much bigger than most clubs in the EPL/La Liga/Seria A/Bundasleague (outwith the top few teams in those leagues) based on leagues of a similiar size to the SPL (Holland/Portugal etc) then we clearly would be considered one of the biggest/

    Grip of reality.

Celtic are a massive club but they dont have the players to compete in the premiership at the moment. With the investment that the epl brings they would be massive within 3 or 4 years.

Really? In what sense are Celtic bigger than Arsenal? Fan base wise definitely not. Arsenal are also 6th based on recent European performances as well UEFA coefficient - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

What do you expect, Celtic join EPL, Celtic win EPL, Celtic massive, maybe in a dream world.

If Celtic joined the EPL now the squad would be around the 8th best in the league. There would be more money to buy players, but there would need to be a huge pverhaul of the current team to compete at the top. That alone is going to take years, and in them years everybody else is also spending and improving. There is no guarentee that even in those 3-4 years Celtic would get anywhere near the top 4.

What does co-efficent have to do with fan base? We are not saying celtic are better than them statistically....thats obvious!

In terms of fans base celtic are bigger than most epl teams. Feel free to explain with some facts why they are not..

I agree excluding Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool. Chelsea i am not sure, because they do have a very large following now world wide.

You can take a look at merchandise sales for facts, Celtics is much smaller than the clubs above. Then look at various fan base estimates, the one i posted before for Celtic of 9million i just saw one checking Arsenals of 30million. Also sticking with Arsenal they have more than 100 supporters clubs worldwide, compared to of what i can find 60 for Celtic.

Well there are at least 60 registered CSC in Ireland alone, not to mention the numerous ones not in the AICSC, never mind throughout Europe, North America and Canda.

Association Of Irish Celtic Supporters Clubs

We have a huge fan base, I don't see how you can possibly deny this

Indeed, he is seriously misguided with the information he has to hand. It will be interesting to read any factual evidence he has.

There's at least 3 within a 5 mile radius where I live. Celtic is a sleeping giant, there is not one person within football that willl deny that. Martin O'Neill also rightly suggested we are potentially the biggest club on the planet, the amount of dormant supporters we have whose interest would be roused should we get to any sort of league with decent interest is enormous.

Please quote where i have denied this. I have said its not as big as certain other clubs that is it. You think Celtic have a bigger fan base than Arsenal, but the £££ doesnt lie. More fans = more merchandise sold. I think Celtic have a bigger fan base than 80% of the EPL.

show us the merchandise facts and figures then.....and back up your statement about the supporters clubs...or are you ditching that argument now?

TV money is the driving force down south.

Jesus christ who knows how many dormant fans any club has. Fact is these people dont spend a penny on Celtic so you can hardly call them fans anyway.
