If I recall correctly, Sporting Lisbon are in financial difficulty so may be forced to accept offers. We all remember him from when we played Utrecht a few years back.

Adrien Silva is another one well worth a look at. Neat and tidy midfielder. Still relatively young but might be too pricey.

...and if I lose my hair I want Carlos Valderrama's napper for a wig, but it isn't going to happen.

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel... would cost all the Hooper money and we'd need to put toethee a very good package but it could be viable.

Totally non-viable. Would cost a fair chunk more than we'll get for Hooper and that simply doesn't fit with our recruitment policy.

Utrech or, more realisitcally, Vitesse, was the time to get him.

I don't believe it is. If, and only if, we sell both Hooper and Wanyama. 24 year old, highly rated player but we would need to splash the cash a bit but if the aforementioned transfers happen? Yes, it would be viable. Eapecially with Lisbon being in financial difficulty.

Since this is real life and not Football Manager, we'll not be spending the sort of money required to sign RVW.

I know this is real life, hence if the funda become available they could be chosen to be released on such a signing. If we sell Wanyama and Gary Hooper this summer, as well as the Champions League money we recorve we will be in a position to offer such fees.

Our club is set up do we break even, we will spend the money that comes in. as we always do.

I'm well aware that we 'could' spend the money, just as you are well aware that we won't.

Spunking more than the entire fee we receive for Hooper on one player would be reckless and it simply isn't going to happen. When we receive big money for a player it will be reinvested in multiple players to strengthen the team.

Also, our recruitment model is designed to help level the financial playing field since we don't receive the sky megabucks. Even if we could afford 10-12 mil for RVW, he could score 25 a season and goals in the champions league and we wouldn't see any mark-up on our investment when the EPL clubs came calling.

    He won't be £10-£12m. More reliastically £5m.

Which I believe we would spend if the money becomes available. Which it will in the summer. Which we can make mark up on, he's only 24.

We won't be getting Ricky van Wolfswinkel mate.

I would be the most surprised man since William Wilton when he went on that innocent boat trip if that should happen.

I agree, we would, and he'd be an excellent Hooper replacement at that price. The only problem is, he won't be moving for 5 million.

Even the bottom estimate of 8 million pounds is well above the level we should be investing in if we want to turn a profit on our investment.

They signed him for around 5 mil themselves, even if they are in financial trouble they will want a decent profit for one of their better players. I suspect teams from La Liga may want him as well, meaning we'd need to play up CL football more than anything.

He'll have about a year left on his deal would he not? i think they'll just want to get money in ASAP.

It would be hard but he fits our model very well, would show ambition and would be achievable if we try hard.

To be honest I can't see it either but I do believe it would be achievable.

For me we're about to enter stage 2 of our financial plan, selling and re-investing in a 'higher calibre' player. If we manage ti reach the Champions League next season as well, who knows who we'll handle that.

    £25m this season CL
    £20m from next season CL
Lets say... £8m Hooper, £12m Wanyama ( i think Wanyama is worth more but I'm being conservative here)

Plenty of room for moving on to re-invest in higher calibre players

There's only one team in Western Europe who would (and did) buy a player for £4.5m and sell him for £5m, and that club died last year. Lisbon are a good selling club: they won't sell for half a million more than they paid Utrecht; they'd be looking to start talking at £8m and get us up to £10m or so, I'd imagine.

I dont think the fee is the determining factor it will be whether they can accommodate the signing within the wage structure because that is the policy you need to get right if you are to avoid financial ruin.
