Martinez Yes or No ?

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by ScottishGhirl, Jun 1, 2009.

  1. When i first heard about this i was thinking who ? and lol at the Mourinho likeness lol no chance untested at european level up and coming manager so great that half of us had never heard of him before, no from me i would like it to be either Billic or Moyes but i cant see that one happening.

  2. dont think he has the experience, no ties to the club other than he maybe played against us when he was at motherwell. probably doesnt know what he is stepping into.

    a resounding No

  3. (Posted this in the other thread but just for all of you who know nothing about him. Endog post in other thread is also useful.)

Sent a txt msg to my brother about Martinez. He isn't a Celtic fan but is big into his continental football, football magazines etc. I'm not saying he's an expert but he has big interest and is well read and his reply on Martinez was this (remember he has no bias for Celtic):

I know more about Martinez than you think. i watched a programme on him which prompted me to read up on him. He's very highly rated as an up and coming manager and his methods are quite fresh, innovative and so far successful. He's supposed to be a very good man manager and motivator - brought great unity and team spirit to swansea through things like insisting ALL the multi national players and staff spoke English, made them eat breakfast and lunch together at the club, and where possible didn't allow 3 or more nationaliites to sit at the one table. Alot of stuff like that. The football Swansea play is very well regarded too.

Bit of an essay i know, but sounds promising and tends to fit in with that link rendog posted.

  4. it shouldnt matter whether the new manager has any ties to the club, it means nothing to me. i just want someone who is gonna * in and try there best to be successful, hopefully playing good football, and who isnt afraid to drop someone who isnt performing.

Its got to be a no, in my opinion we have reached a crossroads now were appointing an up and comming manager could set us back for years if he is a failure the gamble IMO would be too great. To be fair to the guy ive seen Swansea on the box a few times and he has got them playing some good stuff, it all depends if he can continue that on a wet tuesday evening in Motherwell!

  5. For me, no. It's far too much too expect of a 35 year old with limited experience to cope with the day to day pressures of managing a club like Celtic. Perhaps, one day, Martinez will manage a huge club - this time should only come after he has proven himself at the top level. Appointing someone of his ilk would - for me - represent a massive gamble at a time when Celtic need strength and certainty.

In my opinion this would be a backwards move that would render the majority of fans to contemplate thoughts along the lines of: "By *, that Strachan character wasn't so bad after all, was he?!"

  6. He's an up and coming manager, one of the most highly rated in Europe. The comparisons with Mourinho are appropriate to a point - he's at the same level Mourinho was when he moved to Porto, though I guess that depends on how higly you rate Vitoria Sétubal. Mourinho went on the win the UEFA Cup and the Champions League.

I'm not saying that's what will happen, but we should keep in mind that bringing in a young, up and coming manager can have great results, mainly because they have a fresh approach and are very enthusiastic IMO.

He's a risk, one that could yeild fantastic results or one that could explode in our faces, but I think we should be willing to take that risk and see where we get. To be honest I'd take Bilic first but if this is the man we get I'll back him to the hilt.

    A sound yes :50:

Not sure...but I wud take him over McGhee or Levein. but I seriously hope that he is not our only target! Also I doubt he will be able to attract the right players to Celtic

  8. sounds to me like a cheap mans Bilic

I said no and got no idea why you find it hilarious.
I know that he's only managed Swansea in league 1 and the championship where they finished 8th (behind Coyle, McCarthy and even that dud McLeish). For me that doesn't qualify him for a job as big as Celtic and dont see how it makes him one of the highest rated young managers in europe. Mourinho and guardiola have achieved slightly more.
He may well prove himself to be a top manager but would rather wait until he does so before we even consider him.
Dont think we should be gambling on anyone. Proven manager is what we require

  10. agreed.

  11. I feel quite dissapointed too but i'm * with all these names. I dont feel i know enough about him to judge or anyone else from the dissapointing list.

  12. No, he doesn't have the stature to manage our club. He has done well in League one and a respectable finish in the championship but he hasn't done anything big.

Its a gamble because of his age etc, but why not gamble using some hard earned cash and try and prise away Moyes, Mowbray, Bilic etc for an amoutn of money that they won't say no to.!!

  13. agreed spend a bit of * money. Give the manager a bit to play with too.

  14. No

He is a lightweight and Watty would have him in his back pocket from Day 1 :31:

We need someone with the stature of Owen Coyle or Roy Keane
    to do this job.

  15. i,v voted yes because i think hes better than the other real options mcghee levein etc and also he will know a lot of spanish players good enough for us and in our price bracket rightly or wrongly celtic will stay in a certain budget these top managers we all would like will only come to scottish league if they get massive wages and a large transfer budget sadly withought a deal like sky the money in scottish football is not there and no proper business will spend outside their means sad but true c,mon the hoops

  16. no. up and coming manager but just another yes man for our unambitous board

  17. dont know * all about him

  18. What about the Barcelona manager, same age less experience yet he wins the CL and League in his first year.

  19. Not for me thank you!
