McDonald:- Hero or ....

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Fultim67, May 19, 2009.

  1. Right, i'll begin by saying, i know this is gonna be a contentious issue and i'm also well aware of skippy's cotribution to the cause, however, i believe the wee man is simply the best of a truly terrible lot, and that is why he continues to play and is also rarely subbed regardless of his performance.
His first touch in collecting a pass across the groundis absolutely shocking and he couldn't trap a bag of wet cement. This is compounded by the fact that a high ball passed 50,60 yards he can collect it in his stride swivel and score how? that dosen't compute for me. Also i'm left continuously frustrated by his "simulation"i feel he goes down far too easy in situations that don't require him to do that and when the decision dosen't go his way he humphs and haws instead of digging in and doing his job cut the * and stop moaning play the game like a * man!!!!and btw anybody who dosen't think that his tackle on Lee Wilkie last week was a bad tackle and ill deserving of a look by the review panel needs his head checked it was a horrible tackle bringing his foot up after the ball was gone was a cynical thing to do i've been on a park seen a tackle like that and a leg break like henkes comes as a result of it and believe me that is a sickening thing to witness.thanks for reading i look forward to all views and opinions on this matter.

  2. Simply the best is he:rolleyes:

  3. McDonald is the last of my concerns. Sure, he's got his drawbacks but all-in-all he has been nothing less than outstanding for us. Cut the guy some slack mate.

  4. There is no question that players respond to competition and Skippy has no peer in this current squad. I think Skippy is our best striker by far and could go on and be a legend at Celtic but I dont know how long its been that Celtic has had only 1 decent striker.

The wee man is on his lonesome and when you put that into context then Skippy is a great...but he needs support.

  5. wouldn't get on before larsson, sutton or hartson. that's the only comparison i can give.

still rate him though, just not as highly as the above three though.

while mentioning them though, that was the real reason why that badge kissing, limited talented * novo turned us down, not because of the bullshit reason that he preffered rangers. a spanish guy that just happens to pefer rangers, well i don't buy it. the brown tounged *.

  6. As I have mentioned in previous threads, he has done a good job, considering the price we paid for him. In saying that though, I have always watched celtic have 'great forwads' over recent years i.e Di Canio, Cadete, Van Hooijdonk, larsson, sutton, hartson, moravick, bellamy viduka etc, and I have to say that he isnt in any of their classes. Therefore he is decent but no 'great' and if we cant improve on decent then it saddens me considering the talent we have had in this position before now.

  7. don't like the fact that he has been giving some of the players a bit of lip this season and generally huffing a lot on the pitch.
could be just frustration at not having a good partner up front with him.
i think there could be a move on the cards within the next seven months. hope I'm wrong.

  8. was thinking that myself :56:

he just has a bad first touch but there's absolutely no question in the amount of work rate this guy puts in

I mean cmon seriously is there games Fultim where you actually say its time to sub mcdonald and get vennegoor or samaras on?

as for the tackle I do think it was a bad one but so was bougherras and we will see what happens there

  9. He has his drawbacks yeah, but who doesn't? His goal tally speaks for itself, he works like a machine, he is good on the ball and he wears his heart on his sleeve.

You can't compare him with the likes of Pierre, Larsson, Sutton and so on. It's not fair. How much would a Sutton cost us today? £18m at least. And how often does a Henrik Larsson come to light? Not even once in a lifetime.

  10. Personally i think McDonald is brilliant, especially with who has had to play with.

I relish the thought of McDonald and a decent striker up front, it would be amazing :icon_mrgreen:

  11. out of all the players you metioned, I would put Skippy above

Di Canio, Cadete, Van Hoojidonk, Bellamy, Viduka

For the simple reason, all the players above were mercenaries, pure and simple.

He does a good job, and with a good partner next season and beyond, he will become a Celtic legend.

  12. Definately hero, i dread to think what that league table would look like if we had VoH and Sammy up front every week

  13. Overkill187

    Overkill187 Batshitcrazy

He's a good spl player and knows how to score.

  14. I bet you weren't moaning about him when he scored the goals which won the title in 2005.

  15. Not good enough.

He's that good the weans have just named their new hamster after him :icon_mrgreen:

Wee mans a grafter and thats what I like

  16. I think Samaras & Verypoor Van Donkey make McDonald look halfway decent in comparison. He's certainly no Henrik Larsen or even Chris Sutton. But at least he looks as though he gives a *. He's the nearest thing we have to a goal-scorer.

  17. For me Skippy is the sort of standard that is high for the SPL but maybe not quite consistently high enough for Celtic. The sort of guy you would be happy as our 3rd choice striker but not our best striker. Skippy can stay but JVOH is finished. Samaras??? He has flashes or looking great and then poor. I still think we aint seen him on a long enough fit period to judge him but I dont think we can assume he is good enough. So, I think we need 2 new proven strikers in in the summer. Higher priority than anywhere except maybe LB. However, the club need to be willing to either pay EPL level fees or for Bosmans EPL level wages because sure as * the agents will run the players past EPL clubs. They wouldnt be doing their job if they didnt because it pushes fees and wages up. The board have refused to sanction this for the last 2 years.

  18. John Bhoy79

John Bhoy79 Head in the clouds. Mind in the gutter.

The guys you mention were indeed mercenaries but they also delivered on the field. Skippy is a good player who gives his all but will never be as good as those guys(IMO at least). There is no substitute for quality, never has been never will be, and that's the only thing which will turn this team around.

Goalscorer and a hard worker. I find him as frustrating as the next guy but he's good enough for Celtic, to suggest otherwise in a season where we'd be up * creek without him would be silly.

I also believe he'll score at least 2 on Sunday.
