Strachan - Come the summer, stick or twist ?

Discussion in 'Celtic Chat' started by Martin, May 10, 2009.

  1. A think we cannot sack him due to his record but mabi a new coach into the fold to freshen things up! we have been poor this season and last the team is getting worst i think gordon will be lost if naka leaves anyway

  2. He should stay no matter what, even if his decisions sometime make me go "!?"

  3. For me we have got worse.

Arsenal haven't won anything in 5 years. One of the reasons being that they need a few 'finished articles'.

For me we need to get a striker who will be first pick and a couple of others tbh.

  4. I THINK HE SHOULD GO .IVE TRIED AND TRIED to like him ,ive tried to understand him ,ive tried to give him the benifit of the doubt.

i was first to bring to you attention the decline of celtic football club,by decline i mean in quality player, and the decline in our points totals

when he took over we win the title in a canter,"most were martins players"we won the title by something like 17pts,since then it has steadly got worse, more player decline in quality ,more decline in points difference between the top 2 in the spl,

our lead has whittlet away to near nothing last year until we held on grimley to retain the title,

now this year we find our selves with a mountain to climbe to retain our title, a title we should have wrapped up ages ago,

the decline in points ,the decline in personal and if we finally succume to losing the title,he should lose his job

all the above added with the football being "not good" *, ive heard it being called many times

its time for this wee * to go,dont turn back and move on

  5. :56: You were being very reasonable up to this point !

  6. I'm happy for him to stay if we do lose the championship , he was let down by the lack of new first team signings this season and had to do the best with what he had.

  7. with all to due respect to the thread, but threads like these always end up with us all bickering, the original question becomes 20 questions and the same old same old ..sets in

The fact the largest majority think he should go win or lose the league is, for me (and I stress FOR ME), a sad state of affairs.

We shall see what the general consensus is should we win the league.

would you say they have the better squad/players?

  10. There's going to be no bickering in this thread.:50:

Yesterday was serious, and petty squabbling is no good for any of us. There's plenty to discuss without fighting.

  11. I said from the start that he would walk at the end of this season. Was just my view. Now, if we lose the league I think he will stay. He won't want to be seen as walking away because the Shame got the better of him.

  12. WGS should ask the people above how much money he has to play with and when they say very little then he should leave like he should have at the start of the season.

Then we can bring in Mowbray, Hughes or Collins to lift the spirits:rolleyes:

It doesnt work like that at all

  13. Yes Arsenal haven't been too successful but they play in an entirely different environment where their main rivals can outspend them massively. We don't have that problem so the strategy has more chance of working but of course there are no guarantees in football especially when you are buying potential rather than established talent.

But even if we changed manager the new man would be working in the exact same circumstances.

I completely agree that we need a new striker btw, I think the board should have pushed the boat out a little further to get Fletcher in January. Their failure to make any significant additions during that window will be the main reason for defeat this season if that is what happens.

I can accept that we are building towards something bigger. I can accept that given the finances in Scottish football we are changing the way we do things on that front.

BUT he has had 3 seasons now to create a bit of a gap between us and Rangers and he hasnt done enough on or off the pitch to make it happen.

Rangers have less money, they have a lesser squad. Yet they have now caught up with us and could win the league. How does that happen?

He has brought in some good players, most of the good ones were plucked from Scottish clubs so we already knew they could cope with the SPL. But alot of them have been failures, and some of them were expensive failures.

Are we playing better football now than we were in his first season? No, i dont think we are.

  17. They borrowed from the bank

  18. By contract, Strachan has ZERO input into transfer policy or contract negotiations.

Strachan gives his preferences and thats it

  19. Up until about a month ago I would have said that was 100% true. But in recent weeks it has been the stiffs in the Rangers squad who have been winning games for them. Guys like Edu and particularly Velicka who weren't even quoted before suddenly having an impact.

Call it good luck or good management from Smith but their squad maybe wasn't as wafer thin as we thought.
