Aguiar to Celtic wouldn't be the worst deal ever[IMG][IMG][IMG]Reports in today's press suggest Hearts midfielder Bruno Aguiar has attracted the interest of Celtic. The link may have more to do with the fact he is negotiating a new contract than reality, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.

The 28-year-old's agent has claimed there is interest from "big Scottish clubs" amid reports that contract talks have stalled. Aguiar joined Hearts from Kaunas in January 2006 and his current deal expires at the end of the season.

While it would be logical to assume talk of interest from Celtic is little more than a negotiating tactic to try and force Hearts' hand, it's not as though Peter Lawwell and the suits are strangers to signing from fellow SPL clubs. Indeed, the January signing of Willo Flood from Dundee United showed anything is possible.

Although Aguiar joining in the summer would not be a "sexy signing", at least he wouldn't need time to get used to the league. Andreas Hinkel, who impressed against Aberdeen at the weekend and is improving with each game, took a while to get use to the Scottish game and pitches. Aguiar would 'hit the ground running', would not cost anything and his wage demands shouldn't be astronomical.

Scott McDonald, Paul Hartley and Barry Robson are just three examples of players signed from SPL clubs in the recent past who have gone on to do a good job for the club and financial realities mean such transfers, combined with the development of the youth, is how the club is likely to proceed in the future.

Not very exciting, certainly, and nor is the rumoured summer signing of Steven Fletcher from Hibs, but when was the last genuinely exciting transfer Celtic made? Probably Thomas Gravesen, and the less said about how that turned out the better!

what do you think ?:laptop loyal:

cant see this one coming off. we're going to need to splash the cash big time to replace naka. i'd like to think we'll spend at least £5mill on someone rather than aguiar. would love to see fletcher here though

definately could do better than hearts buddy but not good enough for us. naka's going to take some replacing, doubt we're going to get anyone as cheap as him again. i'm struggling to think of players to replace him tbh

Aguiar is better than people are giving him credit for. After being out for a good while he came back and won 4/5 MOTM awards on the spin. He controls the Hearts midfield, and on a bosman would be a realistic bargain imo, next season i wouldnt mind being without Hartley as his legs look to be going whilst Robson is beginning to pick up niggly injuries.

Realistically Celtic aren't going to spend the money people are dreaming about, especially if we win 4IAR with Rangers' stock plummetting further!

Every year we hear about warchests being given to MON then WGS but they never come, and in this climate never will. They, along with the EPL stuff, are just rumours to make sure season tickets and new strips sell!

Not really, Sandaza is inconsistent. Aguiar has been Hearts' best performer all season. People are too worried about replacing Naka, he cant and wont be replaced.

Lubo has never really been replaced, nor has Larsson, Sutton et al. Great players can never be truely replaced.

True he might have been hearts best player but at the end of the day all the talk of him coming to us only started when he scored against us just like sandaza,

Your right saying that he wont get replaced same as lubo and larsson but if we are going to try we have to spend decent money none of this free transfer from another scottish team / lower leauge team pish.

If we got rid of Donati, I'd have him. Hartley will not be able to play every game and I'll wait until I see what Robson's like after his injury problems before thinking he's the same player as before.

Free Transfer is worth a punt tbh

If we got him on a free transfer it would be a bargain. He's a very decent player who I think can only get better.

I think that he would add cover to our squad especially if Donati were to leave and as Hartley wont be able to play too many games next season.

How many sodding midfielders do we need? There's still a LB (and maybe another stirker) issue to be resolved!

If we can improve our squad for a minimal outlay then it has to be worth a punt. Its when you get to this stage in the season that having quality players to step in and cover injuries and suspensions (ala brown) can make all the difference. I doubt a bosman midfield signing will influence WGS and the board's thinking regarding a LB or a striker either Reno.

And they can be in due course. Just because we have higher priorities doesnt mean everything else should be ignored in the meantime
