Do you think we have a chance of winning the European Cup while we're based in Scotland?

Another point is, per size of country and population we are the most watched league in Europe! But still struggle.

The EPL is a stronger competition than the CL, it's the reason why we've had 3 of the Semi Finalists in the Champions League being English teams in the last 3 seasons (could have been 4 only English teams played each other in the quarters all three seasons!)

For us, with our resources to mix with them it wouldn't be long before we were up there with them.

If you look at Ireland and Scotland you will find that most kids now have 2 teams, they have Celtic (or Rangers) plus the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool or Arsenal as their teams. Obviously these kids buy both tops etc - with Celtic in the EPL we have the chance to nip this in the bud and create only 1 team for the kids.

Apart from all this I believe that a couple of seasons struggling in the EPL is good for the soul. All our recent success in Scotland and Europe has made our support complacent - even 'average' CL games now are producing * atmospheres (such as against Aalborg). A couple of years of struggling to achieve a win will surely bring the best back out of the true supporters?

Excellent point there MM, a move to the EPL would benefit the club in monetary terms, competition, players we could attract etc but the icing on the cake would be a return of a decent atmosphere.

look i have great respect for scottish football and i want scottish football to prevail?

what im saying is we must look at all the other aspects of the so called epl2?
like i said earlier 3 or 4 years ago we spoke about this then!and then they told us to * of we dont need you *!

and now we have talk once again about uprooting and going down to the most overrated league going( and it is ) if it wasnt for sky pumping all that money into the epl where would they be today? i reckon half the players that are down there wouldnt be there at all.!

like i said there must be something financialy worrying them now that haveing the old firm down there will help them.
but i beleive we join down there get into europe we will have to play as celtic fc (england) and that sends shivers down my spine typing that ,because i think that will be one of the conditions? now mmmikey, championselect! you have made this a good and very worthwhile debate and i am enjoying it.but? i would like 100% certainty we would carry on playing as a scottish team!

also i hear what you are saying about us being a small country and all and i respect that comment as a blind man can see it is true!
but we shouldnt rule that out and even try a new look revamped scottish leagues for at least 4 years to see how it went and if it failed then ok fair enough.

I think it would make sense for the EPL and the SPL. It would make the EPL more attractive to a world audience having the Old Firm derby and it would also let all the other SPL teams who are constantly moaning about us get on with it.

Who would you rather play Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea or Hamilton, Motherwell or Inverness?

The Spl is currently a complete joke they can't even organise a fixture list properly and the fact that Celtic or Rangers are the only teams capable of winning the league means that it is never going to get major investment, which can only hold us back when competing in Europe.

I beleive we would be Champions within seven years and have the potential to be as big if not bigger than Man United. Rangers on the other hand ain't as big and would be another Everton or Villa, reaching at best mid table.:84:

What do you mean "playing as a Scottish team?"

We represent Celtic FC, that's enough for me. It's not as if our roots are in Scotland either tbh, I'm sure a lot of people at one time will have wanted us to "represent" Ireland as you say you want us to "represent" Scotland.

Nationality should not come into this, as there are Celtic supporters all over the world. The club is based in Scotland and was foounded in Scotland but by Irish people, therefore the club appeals to people from Ireland and Scotland. The club will always be based in Scotland and will always have a connection to Ireland but we would be competing in the EPL.

I don't have any opinion not mentioned here yet, but would like to see in writing a detailed plan on how the league infastructure would work (every variable covered) and get some garauntees on things before we jump at it, but PL is a shrewd businessan so he will undoubtedly have all the bases covered on this one.

I agree, there's no debate, most Celtic fans would agree with me though.

    really? i think different---

The Celtic Football Club is a Scottish football club based in the Parkhead area of Glasgow, which currently plays in the Scottish Premier League. Celtic are the champions of Scotland, having completed a hat-trick of titles on 22 May 2008, the final day of the 2007/08 season. Since the club's formation in 1888, Celtic have won the Scottish championship on 42 occasions and the Scottish Cup 34 times (a record), and won the European Cup in 1967. Celtic's home stadium is Celtic Park (commonly referred to as Parkhead), the largest football stadium in Scotland, with a capacity of 60,832. Together with their Glasgow rivals, Rangers, they form the Old Firm, one of the most famous and fierce rivalries in sport. Celtic have an estimated fan base of nine million people, including one million in North America.[1] The club's traditional playing colours are green and white hooped shirts with white shorts and white socks.

I don't think that means anything.
