Well either way we don't have long to wait to see if this does happen or not, Monday is going to be a busy day one way or another it seems.

In the summer I'd have taken him in a shot but we should be more wary now, what with him not having a great season by last year's standard. At most we should offer £3m and Chris Killen, or another fringe striker on loan.

Wouldn't mind seeing him brought it, but only for a reasonable price.

Agreed, top offer should be £3m plus Killen, if they knock back that they can get tae falkirk.

    Celtic's Fletcher approach halted

Hibs have rebuffed an approach from Celtic to open discussions over a possible transfer for Steven Fletcher.

The Scottish Premier League leaders wanted to negotiate a fee for the 21-year-old Scotland striker.

And BBC Scotland has learned that Celtic were willing to offer a player plus cash for Fletcher, who is under contract at Hibs until 2013.

Fletcher, who made his Hibs debut in April 2004, has scored six goals this season and netted 14 times last term.

Following news of Celtic's interest, Hibs released a statement, saying: "Hibernian FC rejected a verbal approach from an SPL club to discuss the potential transfer of Steven Fletcher. No further discussion is planned."
Last season's Scottish Football Writers' young player of the year was linked with a host of clubs in the summer, including Real Madrid and Middlesbrough.

Celtic have made a habit of plundering Hibs in recent seasons, with Fletcher's Scotland team-mates Scott Brown and Gary Caldwell regulars at Celtic Park.

Derek Riordan returned to Easter Road at the beginning of this season, having left to join Celtic in 2006 but finding first team opportunities hard to come by, while Chris Killen made the same move a year later, only to struggle with form and injuries.

Samaras was actually bought for 1.2 million bud, wgs actually came out and said he paid this and also reported at the same time that we got naka for under 1 million!!!!! the press printed we paid 2 or 3 mill for naka which was wrong so dont believe everything you read:50:

All this stuff about left back???? did you see naylor during the week??? have you seen the state of the left full back area???? ffs you could have drove a fleet of tanks through our defence the other night bud there was that much space,/ decent oppositton will punish us/ why do you think we have been losing or drawing games recently/ its not * hard 2 sign a decent defender the * 1st thing we should have signed on the 1st a january imo. if you think the defence are mustard you must be watching a different game from the rest of us coz there,s flaws all over the defensive areas not just lb!!!!!!!!!!!!:icon_mrgreen:

In fairness, you could drive a fleet of tanks through the side of the stadium and nothing stop them

I rather we find the real deal than find another one season wonder a la Naylor

Anyways, Hibs have rejected the approach for Fletcher, this rumour is dead

lol agree naylor was excellent his 1st season but his crossing and poor all round play has really got 2 me this season, he doesnt look half the player of last season!!! this lb area is the area of the team we have been struggling for around 6-7 years, even under oneil

Aye, its been a long term problem for both managers.

This will probably put added pressure on Misun to turn out to be a freak of left back which could be a bad thing as McGlinchey was complaining about.

Hopefully, something good will happen for us soon

good..agree completely agree mate.Naylor was excellent 1st season..and if we signed Fletcher im sure he would be the same. And go right downhill after it.Dont rate him much at all.No better than Jvoh,Skippy or Sammy.I would rather sign Evans.

Personally I wouldn't pay £3 million for Fletcher. Not sure who else we could get but I reckon there would be bargains out there for £3 million. I know some guys don't want to come to Scotland but there are players out there who I believe would come for the size of Celtic and Champions League!

The good thing is at least it proves that although they have taken their time, they are going to spend money!

Fletcher is pish. The new Kenny Miller. Let's give youths a chance, or get a shrink for Samaras' confidence, rather than wasting money.

    I'm unsure about Fletcher aswell.

But with McGowan with Accies and Ben Hutchinson injuried, we "only" have Cillian Sheridan left. I don't see he should be what we're looking for at this moment.

Sadly, you're right about Sheridan. But certainly, Fletcher isn't the answer. I'd like to see Park Chu Young from Monaco on Parkhead. Very fast, excellent technique, isn't a selfish *, good free kicks also. An SPL player I'd want is Mulgrew. LB position solution.:50:
