hey davie how you doin mate.
the problem with this scenario is FIfa need to step in with a wage cap!!!
this is the only way now .i have mentioned this before if they do not its gonna kill football!. teams are struggling as it is now and now adays its not a fair level no more.
i mean look at man city 100m + 500,000 a week wages for kaka ffs .
its things like this thats starting to cripple the game.
im not having a go at man c or anything but its now ridiculous and a wage cap MUST come in to play asap.

I read in the Daily Express today that WGS was up in arms about wages and Dermot's position etc. I think fair enough, the bottom line is the bottom line. Now I would not mind so much but then in the same article is WGS expressing his interest in the Kljestan but wants to see him first.

Fair enough but if money is so tight and this lad is not exactly going to walk into the first team then why effectively risk (some would say waste) £1m+ on him?

What really makes my blood boil is the fact that money would be better saved an invested into a Left back. I am sick of people saying keep the faith etc etc, if they can turn up this supposed talent and are willing to risk £1m on him why can't they do the same with a LB?

It would seem that WGS is blind to the matter. It was very similar when we needed a RB and a LB before we got Naylor. I really think if WGS could get away with it he would have a team full of flamin' midfielders........

i agree lads about no paying over the odds
but celtic only want 2 pay if ur lucky 15k a week.
now what half decent player would come when we want to pay pennuts
now you know what you get when you pay that our team is full of them
the reality is that the board are happy to get there 10mill and thats it
the debt will be gone once the champ money gets payed for this season
and then what will the excuse be?
i think it will go like this we cant go below 5mill in the bank then it will be 10mill etc! bottom line is the board dont wana spend money
there happy that we,re just getting by with the * weve got and the fact the huns are in * creek makes it easy for them.
and before anyone starts im not expecting us to got out and spend 10mill on one player but we should be able to go to least 5-6mill for a player what do you think????????:31::31::31:

I don't think most Celtic fans have to be wowed with the actual figures. I think most would be happy if we spent some money, just on the right players for the positions that are obviously lacking.

It is starting to become a racket that we are always signing 'for the future' that is fine but what about the present? If we don't keep our standards up in the interim then when these players are ready they are not going to be playing in competitions that are actually worth it because our current players are not up to the job of keeping us in the ones that matter and we all want to be in.......

Lets face it if this current team was up against Rankers when they were in their nine in a row run we would be so far up proverbial with not a paddle in sight.

I have been saying for ages its not the buying of the players its the paying of the wages.Six million will buy you a rather good player but when you add on a 5 year contract like brownie at roughly 30,000 a week it takes the deal up to.......13 million two hundred thousand........ and thats the killer.I think we are very very lucky to have some of the players we have and some fans on here need to wake up to the facts celtic have to face every day.
Even if the papers are wrong by 25% about Austria league they will still be paying 30,000 a week.
We can only pray for the day sky sports bubble goes pop,but with setanta coming along the bidding will only drive wages up higher.

These figures ref England and Austria are complete nonsense! We`re being fed misinformation with false figures to justify our lack of spendin - and most seem to be swallowing it. Again, like most fans, i`m not saying we should go mad with the cash - some chance! - but if we fail to sign a lef - back (Sylvinho PLEASE) it will border on criminal. A striker with pace would also be a welcome addition in this window. Also, splash out a few hundred grand to secure Zaluska now. I love Boruc but want a capable replacent to force him to recver form, replace him if he doesn`t or cover for injuries.Surely, these would hardly cripple us. Hail!Hail!

why spend and waste money on zaluska? we have already signed him he is ours in 6 months time.
boruc is no 1 wether you like it or not.
so the money we have saved on zaluska use it on someone else ...problem solved.

Boruc is No. 1 and hopefully will be for years to come. I am firmly in the pro - Boruc camp and hope and believe his recent clangers are behind him. However, he is going through a torrid time with confidence at an all- time low and the possibility exists that he won`t recover. For example, if he has another at Pittodrie tomorrow i think he`ll be dropped.Up step Mark Brown!..........that`s why i want Zaluska. Strachan obviously shares my concerns ref Brown otherwise he wouldn`t have signed Zaluska. Hail!Hail!

Not casting aspersions on you personally Tim Park, but yes, they are complete nonsense.Someone posted quoting 15-20k average for Premiership circa 2006.And i would confidently guess Austria boasts average wage in the low end of single figures. But, no, i don`t have definitive figures.Took me long enough to be able to get on to this forum and be able to post as computers aren`t my strength but surely some TC member can research the figures.Dempsey normally good at this. Hail!Hail!

I personally think that the january window is over rated. Yes we need a left back and cover in other positions but why pay ott prices for players who might not actually be first choice for us. Would rather wait 5 months and sign a player who would greatly improve the team than sign a player now because Naylor is *

A review of EPL wages in the past 3 seasons

The wage bill has virtually doubled between 2006 and 2008. Unbelievable stuff

So roughly a average wage is £26,000 per week ~

also remember "typically rises by between 60% and 100% when performance-related bonuses are taken into account."

Cheers Dempsey. So, even allowingfor generous win bonuses, we`re probpably at less than the 80k quoted - it was total nonsense then. Don`t suppose you could work the oracle on Austrian figures Dempsey- that would be impressive! Hail!Hail!

I'd bet that this seasons wages are up on last years too so it could be roughly £80k when bonuses are considered, * madness

As for the austrian league, not a chance but I'd reckon that both figures arent too far wide of the mark. I spend less than 1 minute googling for those articles and another minute to copy and paste.

I'd bet on management at CP to make it their business knowing the average wage and every way to look at the numbers of every league that they are scouting in. Also they would know inside out the work permit laws to bring players into the EU from any country they are scouting in.
