Bit of a banker at Celtic too. But aye, he's made £15m since leaving football and now runs and asset management company from London!

    Totally random.

Fair play to him, quite a sensible idea for a lot of footballers to have something else to fall back on if football doesn't work out.

Yeah...bankers don't really see the light of day. Maybe they do deserve a bonus?

Agree with McG - players should have something to fal back on.

Probably helped him that he had a few million in seed money to begin with mind....

    Aye fair play to him.

He was only way us for about 6 months but what an incredible 6 months it was. He was an absolute rock in the defence. He's said a couple times over the years he regrets he not stayed longer with us.

Was quaility with us. Really solid defender. Not to be padantic but he's in asset management by the sound of things, not investment banking.

It's good for any ex-sportsmen to have something to do and not always for money reasons. Can't be healthy to retire in your 30's and have no interests.

"Banker with business degree specialising in banking and corporate finance founds a Swiss asset management company that focuses exclusively on Asset Management and Corporate Finance for clients with a high net worth (in other words, he helps wealthy people increase their already vast wealth). He also co-founded a London-based hedge fund that manages over $2.5 billion worth of assets, and managed to get these ventures off the ground by using millions of pounds that he "earned" with very little by way of actual sweat, toil and effort."

    TalkCeltic general opinion on bankers;

Hold on! The banker in question is a former footballer who played for Celtic!

Not always for money reasons?!!? He's not running a * charity shop or building model trains! He's managing assets for high end individuals, no doubt doing so in order to help them increase their already vast wealth! Isn't that the kind of behaviour that usually has the TalkCeltic masses spitting blood and reaching for the pitch forks?

    I love this place! :56:

By the way, a 15 hour work day is on the lower end of a normal day in Investment Banking.

Someone working as an analyst in Canary Wharf may be on £40k base BUT works week days from 8am - 12/1am AND weekends with slightly shorter hours. Also, very few holidays and working Christmas day and NY day.

If you pro rata a Bankers wage to any other profession they will be much, much lower.

Yeah, but what good are bonuses if you're working most days for long hours? You don't actually get to enjoy the money. A bit pointless in my opinion.

I just had a look online. It appears the junior staff (bankers) work the longest hours. Often with low-ish pay in terms of pro-rata. However this is basically a stepping stone into a more lucrative position.

The guys earning mega-bucks won't be doing those sort of hours. Guys like Vega might but that's his company and he may just be career driven.

Think you missed the point. I was trying to say that ex footballers may not always need the money involved in having a post-retirement career/hobby, but it's beneficial to have one nonetheless. For a footballer who retired at say 35, it's very good to have something to focus on rather than just putting their feet up.

I work in the same industry as Vega (albeit for a far bigger firm) so no pitchforks from me.
