First things first. What other bands have the versatility of the Arctic Monkeys?

Now my little story, the Arctic Monkeys were the first 'indie' band I ever started listening to (I'm American) and while over the years I have liked other bands, eventually my interest wanes into nothingness. But still the Arctic Monkeys are my favorite band, I think 23 of the 25 most played songs are my iPod are them, and I think it's because every album has such a different sound (except maybe the first two, though Favorite Worst Nightmare has more mature lyrics.) Take a person who's never heard of them and play a song from Humbug and then a song from AM and they would never know it's the same band.

Any other good bands like that?

Can't think of any. They were a great band before Alex Turner started putting on that daft * accent & strutting about like Morrisey.

Listen to "Kings of Leon- Youth and Young Manhood" and you would think you were listening to the future of Rock and Roll.

Listen to "Kings of Leon - Only by the Night" and you would think you were listening to last years "X Factor" winners.

    * sell out *.

Two top ten singles and they get a taste for caviar and champagne. Happens to most bands unfortunately. Popularity = money. Money = * music.

Love the 1st two Monkeys albums. 3rd was crap. New one i can't get into at all.

At the OP - try Franz Ferdinand. Their 3 albums are quite poppy with guitar hooks and dancey drums. Not quite as much humour as the Monkeys, but still a good band all the same.

You've hit the nail on the head there, five brilliant but different albums. Their sound derives from a lot of stuff, from Dr. Dre to Black Sabbath to Ennio Morricone to The Libertines to Richard Hawley to The Doors. But they don't sound anything like any of those artists. Queens Of The Stone Age is probably the band they resemble the most, Josh Homme having produced one of their albums and appeared on the others, but even then they don't really sound much like QOTSA either.

For versatility, there are bands like Radiohead, The Flaming Lips that constantly reinvent themselves, but they are missing the pop element that the Monkeys have, where they still know how to write tunes that are catchy as well. Or more importantly, Alex Turner's wit.

Milburn sound very like them who are a band that went to school with the arctic monkeys and some claim the arctic monkeys stole their sound.

Gomez are a band who are always trying to mix up their sound with each album (even within an album).

They have three different singers as well.

I remember that, more the first two albums before the Monkeys really defined their own sound on Humbug. Milburn didn't seem to be bothered by it though, now they've split up one of them plays keys for the Monkeys on tour.

I heard that too. They had to split up because they couldn't get anywhere cause they said they sounded like the arctic monkeys but they were on the go first. But absolutely love the arctic monkeys.

Just listened to some of Milburn there, that's quite poor from the Monkeys.

I know music rips each other off all the time but that quite blatant.

That was my favourite song from them. Seen them live at the ABC in Glasgow and were brilliant.

So raging that one of them is a current member of the Monkeys live band? They don't sound anything like any of the Monkeys music from the second album onwards, which is when they made their best stuff anyway.
